ID request
    #7159372 - 07/11/07 04:30 AM (16 years, 8 months ago)

I just got back from my first shrooming trip. I didnt get very many specimens but I'm happy to get SOMETHING. I think I need to find a better pasture, maybe one with more trees...

Anyways I collected these in florida. They all appear to be the same species but I could be wrong seeing how this was my first time. Im pretty sure theyre active psilocybian mushrooms, but I'm just a little paranoid that maybe I haven't reasearched every aspect of identification.

...okay Im having trouble uploading the pictures. bear with me for one moment...

I found these growing in cow patties in the shade of trees. most of them were solitary with the exception of maybe one pair or trio. most of them appeared to bruise blue although some didnt.

when i took spore prints of several, the colors ranged from a blackish purple to dark black. I also noticed that one of the mushrooms leaked water onto the paper, which turned the paper purple.

the gills are attached and they range in color from light brown to dark black, with the smaller ones being lighter in color.

I was also wondering if these would be enough for one dose or should i get more first? I really need to find a better field so i can find more specimens...

I might see a cope or two there, but I really don't think so. You said they bruise blue, but I don't see any blue in the pictures.
At any rate, you have Pan. antilarum (sp.) there, a very close cousin to Copelandia cyanescens.
Keep looking, you'll find 'em

man that sucks i was really convinced. I guess its all part of he learning process. they really did have a blue hue to them right after i picked them, and the water that came off of them was DEFINATELY staining the paper purple, almost like ink mixed with water(not sure if that means anything though)

but like i said the coloration wasnt the same as when i picked them.

If I were to eat them just to be sure, would they harm me if they were pans and not copes?

the bruising i witness looked exactly like some of these in this picture, but they later turned to black 2-3 hours later when i took the pictures. i currently have them stored in honey.

it just sucks to go through all that trouble for nothing:rolleyes: like i said though, i think i just need to find a better field.

Yeah, the spores can look kinda bluish or purplish sometimes (though they are black).
They probably wouldn't kill you, but they may induce a few :shitstorm: 's
You think it's frustrating? Atleast you have a chance at findin some, I spent years siftin through pans tryin to find the rogue cope.  :rasta:

All of the mushrooms pictured in your last post appear to be copelandia. Very active.

Reason for deletion: my browser froze and i thought that the post didnt go through, so i posted a very simular one right after it, making the second post very redundant and pointless.

Well the very last picture (extreme close up) arent the mushrooms I picked, but the coloring of the bruises in those picks look identical to the ones I picked about 15-40 minutes after i picked them.

by the time I got them back to the house and took pictures it had been almost three hours since i picked them and they had turned more of a black color...although some of the smaller ones still had a slight blue tint to the black, you just an make itout very well in those pictures.

So the only way to tell between the Pan. antilarum and Copelandia cyanescens, is the blue bruising when handled? Both have gray to black gills and a black spore print. Is there any other way to tell without looking at the spores under a microscope?

I just compared the two species ID facts. Apparently Panaeolus antilarum's gills have whitish edges and a hemispherical cap, where as Copes have more of a bell shape cap and the stems are thinner than Panaeolus antilarum on average. And of course the bluing. Do all Copes bruise blue? Because I have found several shrooms I thought were copes but did not bruise blue. Would be a shame if I threw them out for nothing.

All members of the Copelandia genus are active, and all bruise blue.

I thought I had read something that said there were 2 inactive species of Copelandia? Research papers from Jonathan Ott I believe.

Yay or nay?

The few things I've read says they all bruise blue, but once again i'm a total rookie and have read limited information.

but yeah I've decided to risk it and take the shrooms. if i dont return you guys know whay happened;)

the mushrooms definately looked blue when i first picked them but later turned black.

I'll let you guys know what happens...

Well I made some tea using a recipe off here. the mushrooms just looked too disgusting to eat after sitting in the honey all night...not to mention maggots were inside the honey.

anyways I drank it about te minutes ago...nothing yet. you guys are probably right, but I just couldnt stand the thought of throwing them away.

I'll post back if for some chance they do start to work.

Please let us know what happens either way.

I don't know of any poisonous black spored mushrooms.
