Why not just take a cake and roll it around in a tray of sterilized damp verm.
Kinda like rolling cookies or something in powdered sugar.
Since shrooms like to grow from were the verm is, why not put it all over instead of the ends?
As long as you give it enough water, want having pins all over the place on a cake lead to some nice flushes?

Also, I wanted to try using food coloring to change the color of the shrooms.
Someone else had that idea too.
That would be neat if it worked.

i belive the food coloring was tried with no success, but i could be wrong. according to a video i watchedin biology, mushrooms grow from the end of the Hyphea (mycleal cell strands). they grow from the last area colon'zed, where the hyphea are still growing, being the top, bottom, and the points where the innoculation points meet. The problem with your idea is you won't be able to see your innoculation points as well, you will have less spawn, and there fore less mushrooms per cake.
