Wholey chit that was quick!!Thanks, now i begin drilling.
not sure if you guys do this but i figured i could drill 10 caps at once by putting the caps in the screw lid,all 10 in there. That way one hole drilled does all 10.

oh wait...you're talking about the jars..... it depends on the size of needle. I think I usually go with 7/64"

1/8-1/4 is fine it will provide for good air exchange also.

I drill 12 lids at once, but with a 1/8" drill bit. Four 1/8" holes have the same area as a single 1/4" hole. I would be afraid that four 1/4" holes would dry out your jars and/or encourage invitro pinning. Remember, you want gas exchange in jars, not air exchange. RR

Yeah i just looked at my drill bits and 1/4 looked a bit big,I just don't know the size of the needles so that's why i asked.I'm still awaiting my order.7/64 does sound a bit more reasonable,i would imagine the bigger the hole the better chance of a contam.

Yeah, 7/64" worked good for me because it was just big enough for the needle to fit in there. I figured the same thing...less change for contamination.

Do what RR said. 4 1/8 holes around the lids.
