U.S. forces strike Afghan wedding...
    #715161 - 07/01/02 06:32 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN - U.S. helicopter gunships and fighter jets opened fire on a house in Afghanistan Monday killing and injuring guests at a wedding.

The attack happened in the village of Kakarak in Uruzgan province, where special forces and other coalition troops are searching for al-Qaeda and Taliban fugitives.

A witness says the attack began at around 2 a.m. and continued until 4 a.m.

Reports on the number of people killed or hurt ranged widely and could not immediately be confirmed. All a U.S. military spokesman acknowledged was that four civilian casualties had been airlifted to hospital. A provincial spokesman said about 40 people were killed and 70 others were hurt.

Afghan hospital officials say most of the dead and injured were women and children.

U.S. special forces were on a mission in the area at the time and military leaders say they came under fire and called in air support. The Pentagon says one bomb did go astray in the process. It's still not clear if that bomb hit the building.

Some reports said wedding guests had been firing guns in the air in jubilation, a common occurrence at such celebrations.

The U.S. military has launched an investigation.

Afghan leader Hamid Karzai also said a commission will be set up to investigate and that aid would be sent to the area.

Could someone explain to me why the fuck the U.S. is still bombing Afghanistan??? The U.S. has already acknowledged that Osama is most likely not in Afghanistan anymore...so why are they stil beating a dead horse? Just so they can prove a point? Yes...we are all painfully aware how superior your military forces are compared to a bunch wedding guests...how many more needless deaths have to occur?...another case of "Ready, FIRE, Aim"

Is always the same shit, a bomb when missing here or there, civilians die but is ok, because was a mistake we did not do it on purpose, but people don't complain when a survivor from that wedding seeks revenge on us for blowing out his family.

is obvious, that u.s. is not in afghanistan to fight taliban pledged to Osama, that they are only there securing their asset and government.

>>Could someone explain to me why the fuck the U.S. is still bombing Afghanistan???

Check past issues of same paper, there was something about, oh, thousands of taliban and Al Qaeda regrouping. Don't conveniently forget Shah-i-Kot. They are still regrouping and we will continue bombing the shit out of them several times over

>>The U.S. has already acknowledged that Osama is most likely not in Afghanistan anymore...so why are they stil beating a dead horse?

Check past issues of same paper, there are reports of frequent fire-fights with assorted now dead Taliban/Al Qaeda

>>Just so they can prove a point?

Oh yeah, that's why we went there............

>>Yes...we are all painfully aware how superior your military forces are compared to a bunch wedding guests...how many more needless deaths have to occur?

Wedding guests had assalut rifles at least, and they were thought to be combatants. Unlike the people in the WTC who were smoking cigarettes and chatting on the phone. How many more needless deaths have to occur?

>>...another case of "Ready, FIRE, Aim"

Allahu Akbar!!

>>is obvious, that u.s. is not in afghanistan to fight taliban pledged to Osama,

Obviously we were, the bulk were easily defeated. They were too busy killing the assorted dangerous journalists I guess.

>> that they are only there securing their asset and government.

I refer again to the past issues of any major newspaper refering to regrouping terrorists. Why do you think they are regrouping? To shake Karzai's hand? Maybe to form a nice alliance devoted to peace and love...
Gee, I wonder why we ARE still there....

Anyone see the Daniel Pearl execution video? We should be even nicer to the detainees and give them cable tv.

BRING IT!!

On the lighter side.... at least the groom will be spared a lifetime of misery.

On the more serious side, see the above post. Until all Taliban / Al Qaeda are dead, we should keep bombing.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation.
