I was picking my dog's turds today from out the yard, and one of them was sprouting mushrooms. I looked at it and it looked like Cubensis, the gills had dark purplish black from the spores and everything. Any help?

I think any wheat fed animal's dung as potential to be a good home for mushrooms, don't quote me on that though. Depending on the food you give your dog, maybe. Most dog foods are wheat heavy.

I"m sure it could act as somewhat a fertilizer, but it's probably no where as effective as cow shit.
If my understanding is correct the reason why cow shit is so great is because cows eat the spores with the grass and they have extremely mild stomache acid, and 3 stomaches, so that whole time the grass is being digested the spores are just sitting their waiting, and once the shit gets shat, it's moist and healthy for spores to flourish.
My guess would be though since dogs aren't meant to eat just grass (though they do occasionally) that they'd have stronger stomaches, but I'm sure if their crap was left in one spot long enough then maybe they'd fertilize some of the soil.

IDK usually when I let My dog, especially after it rains, he does what he has to do, then sit around eating grass for like 20 minutes or so...

Eating all the grass could definitely be a major factor, since I'm sure that'd make quality fertilizer for shrooms. Maybe let your dog crap sit 3-4 days after it rains and then check, if nothing's there then throw it out.

Do a search for 'dog poo' and you'll find all sorts of reasons why it shouldn't work. But if you found mushrooms on dog poo, it's at least possible.
But before you get too excited, get a positive ID. Post a pic, or several, here for the experts to look at. And read this: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5731447/an/0/page/0 and this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/2263556/an/0/page/0
If you've found the pot of gold, then congratulations, we're all envious. But be skeptical .

Just think of all the salmonilla poisoning from imported canned animal food! sad diet for an animal. I'm glad to see when people let their animals roam free and get into all the natural, little goodies out there.
Animals love to get intoxicated from eating fermented fruit just read "wild health" by Gabriell Cousens. Wild animals know alot more about getting fucked up than we do and they don't over do it and die from an abusive overdose. Please don't leave any synthetic chemicals lying around for animals. Not just you but anyone.
I found a little bit from my only field I go to now on july 8th. Positive ID! the season is here! I have pet cows, man. Yea.
