    #714519 - 06/30/02 09:39 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

my step mom bought some oyster mushrooms and forgot they were in the fridge for quite a while. today she pulled them out and it appears that new mushies have decided to grow directly from the old ones. sorry i?m no mushroom expert, is this common? these new mushies are oysters right?

Yes they are oysters. It is common for agressive species like pleurotus pulmonarius to form new primordia like that.
Do not eat them!

I've had the same thing happen to a tissue sample I was trying to clone.
"Do not eat them!"
why not?
not that they look very appetising, but surely they won't be harmful?

In GGMM is similar picture and note that eating mushrooms like that can make you sick. I guess that it's very likely that bacteria and molds are also growing on that.
