arrgh, the exterminator is coming!
    #7134379 - 07/05/07 07:30 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

My friend has some jars that are trying to colonize sitting in the top of his closet. Well, little did he know that his girlfriend scheduled an exterminator to come to the house this weekend and spray outside AND INSIDE for bugs. He was wondering if their spray will contaminate the jars? Should he stick them in a dresser drawer or something?

Id bag thoes up for the day leave them in a garbage bag with some crushed up paper you will have air in the bag so they can breath and it will just look like garbage and they will be protected.

yeah, i was also thinking he could just stack a few books in front of them. he's not so worried about the guy seeing them as he is the pest control spray getting in the jars. i'm assuming they'll only spray the baseboards.

how about a few zip lock bags? they'd be ok in there for a couple days wouldn't they? or how long would you wait before returning them to the shelf?

poison should be pretty heavy and not be floating in the air for long. If you walk in and can still smell it, I would keep them at least in a drawer. Once you walk in the house and can't smell the fumes, it should be okay.

My new favorite bullshit explanation, for when someone sees a big pile of jars on my dresser or something: "They're YEAST cakes. For home-brewing." No one will know the difference.

Anyway, I don't think the exterminator is going to fuck up your cake. Just put them in an open garbage bag for the day. They don't need that much oxygen over the course of a few hours.

If it's not contaminating the stuff in your pantry, it's not harming your cakes. That's what I'd say, anyway.

Just don't put your cakes somewhere they're likely to get a direct spray... like, I don't know, in a giant ant-shaped container of some sort. (Er, a drawer would be fine.)

Unless the exterminator is fumigating, I'd think your jars should be ok where they are as long as they are out of sight...how many cakes are we talking about here? I'm actually dealing with a similar situation.

Lol, thanks. I'll avoid my large ant-shaped container.

There's 15 jars.
