Psilocybe cubensis "John Allen" PF-Tek
    #7132641 - 07/05/07 01:48 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

Hello shroomery, you all of have seen my first grow thread and how horrible that turned out. Well I am back and as prepared as ever. I bought 12 pre-sterelized brf jars from a Shroomery sponsor/vendor and prepared a cheap and easy glove box, blasted the sh** out of it with bleach and did my thing.

I inoculated 10 jars with John Allen strain (thanks Roadkill for isolating this strain!) on Thursday June 28.

7 days after inoculation, Thursday, July 5

No signs of contams yet, but a lot of the jars are releasing metabolites on the bottom.

10 days after inoculation, Sunday, July 8

Still no signs of contams!

most of the jars look like this on the bottom, cant really tell but are those metabolites?

this jar seems to be colonizing very slow

one side of a jar

other side of same jar

Its really made progress since the 7 day mark, compared to your brf jars, what speed are mine colonizing at?

15 days after inoculation, Friday, July 13  :paranoid:

4/10 jars are fully colonized and 1 jar has a very small spot left. Most of the other jars are also almost fully colonized and that 1 slow one is still being slow!

here is that slow one

21 days after inoculation, Thursday, July 19

All of the jars have been fully colonized by now and finally that slow one is too. 4 will be ready to dunk tomorrow

The cakes are shriveling up, and here is that slow one again

LATER THAT DAY

WOOT! i dunked 4 cakes today and constructed my FC!

Here my cakes are being discreetly dunked in my closet

For my FC, i spraypainted the outside black for stealth issues, and drilled holes in 5 sides, no point in doing the bottom since it BARELY fits under my bed and cant be raised... btw drilling the holes was VERY LOUD---and it also cracked twice i guess from pushing too hard and having the holes too close.

Here it is barely fitting under my bed
BEFORE:

AFTER:

AFTER:
Under my bed with ROOM LIGHTS OFF

Inside FC

LOOKIN GOOD!!?

only problem is there still is a pretty bright glow coming from under my bed.. tomorrow these cakes will be ready to put in the fc!!!!!!!

Or get a cool mist for $25, providing both great humidification and FAE.

You can pipe it in. Takes a bit of work, though.

Those should both work for FAE, as best I can tell at a glance. All they have to do is pump air.

OK i finally came up with an idea, here it is-

With these 4 items and also perlite i will consctruct my uber fae tub

1. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441810767&FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302030090&ASSORTMENT<>ast_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1183685109873&itemNo=10&Ntt=pump&In=All&previousText=pump&N=2

2. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441811418&FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302030092&ASSORTMENT<>ast_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1183867918606&itemNo=13&Ntt=tube&In=All&previousText=tube&N=2

3. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441811417&FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302030092&ASSORTMENT<>ast_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1183868001440&itemNo=0&Ntt=tube&In=All&previousText=tube&N=2

4.

I will drill 8 holes on the bottom of the fc, also some on the top to let the air out, connect the tubing and t-valves accordingly to the air pump and plug them into the FC. Here is a rough draft (lol) looks kinda messy but itll look neat when its done. I know this will dry the perlite fast, so ill have to keep rehydrating it, no problem. Anyone thinks this looks like a good idea, or a dumb waste of time. Im doing this because its going to be enclosed under my bed where no air currents can get to.

I would imagine that would work. I watched a video on the Macro Dome, and it just had a pump attached to one air stone for FAE.

im gonna do the billion hole FC for my first cultivation! so let me know how yours goes. so far ive read that its pretty much the best way. self FAE'ing, pretty contam resitant (RR has his i think 18" from a blackmold spot)and all the other good stuff youre supposed to get from a fruiting chamber, it does very well!

hope yours goes well, and hope mine does too? what size holes are you gonna drill. i was thinkin like a 3/16th bit.

I'm with figgusfiddus.

Quote:

I tried all kinds of rediculous things to get my fruiting chamber to just the perfect RH and temperature. Ultimately a low wattage lightbulb and two cool mist humidifiers did the trick. That combination makes my FC stay 72F and 91% RH. The very day after I converted my fruiting chamber over to just the right fruiting conditions I had pins everywhere.

By the way I see the cool mist humidifers at the Salvation Army store for $5 all the time. I don't know why they have so many but they just always seem to have piles of them. That reminds me I need two more and a lamp since I'm going to build another fruiting chamber.

Some are some aren't.  I'm suggesting you get what ever model you can buy for five dollars at the Good Will store.

The one on the left is noisy the one on the right is so quiet.  The one on the left I payed $5 to buy the one on the right $30.  They work equally well.

Actually now that I think about it I suggest you don't get one at all.  If you're just doing cakes I don't see a need for anything other than a clear plastic tub with lots of holes drilled in all 4 sides plus in the top and bottom sides.  Then put 4 or 5 inches of hydrated perlite in the tub.  Perlite doesn't make a peep.

If you're worried about fresh air exchange just take the lid off and fan it a couple times a day.

Today i got my fruting supplies, a 56 quart sterilite bin, 2 bags of perlite, and a battery operated 12" flourescent light. The fruiting chamber BARELY fits under my bed so i guess if i drill holes on the bottom they wont be doing any good.

Has anyone used a battery powered light INSIDE their fruting chamber without any problems?

and

After dunking, do you set the cakes in your fruiting chamber right side up(the way they were colonizing inside the jar) or upside down? does it even matter?

place them top side down...by top i mean where the lids of the jars were, or where the dry verm that you scraped off was. im not sure if you can do it the other way, this is just what ive seen on all the videos and pics!

Since hyphal knots to primordia to pins takes at least two to three days, those pins formed because of what you were doing before you made the changes.

Air exchange, full colonization, light, and 100% humidity are the major pinning triggers. However one goes about getting there is fine.

I never knew that.  This timing doesn't change regardless of conditions?  For example if the humidity was really low and the casing wasn't well hydrated it wouldn't matter?  The hyphal knot to primordia to pins phases always take the same amount of time?  Not that it doesn't make sense to my scenario.  I wasn't far off ideal conditions I just wasn't right on them either.  Temperature was always the least ideal conditon.  So if I understand correctly not having ideal conditions inhibbits the triggering not the overall speed of the process?  That's a valuable piece of information that I have somehow previously overlooked.

Thanks!
Oh and sorry to jack your thread AbyssWP.

That whole fish pump set up you were talking about getting is similar to what i have :tongue2:

I got a 66qt tub with an XP-60 topfin pumping air into two 8 inch air stones inside of it. Over the airstones is some hydroton w/ water and above that - casings! two holes int he top etc, etc. PMP!

Works wonderfully and i think in a bit i will buy some of those T Pipes cause my XP-60 has enough air power to pump enough air into two of these suckers!

yeah thats what you think, my family is notorious for "cleaning" a room while no ones home. Especially if they think im up to no good.
They have done everything from calling my friends to setting up trip wires to catch me sneaking out. Ive been publicly humiliated many times, after smoking at a friends she came to his house and cursed him and all my friends out, and was threating to tell his parents and stuff.
Since then all i hear is "so hows your crazy grandmother, havent seen here since she cursed us out, crazy bitch"

yeah, one time my grandmother took my FC with these huge shrooms in it outside and showed her son, my uncle, and he was once really into the phycadelic scene still had no idea that they were cubies.

( i have to add, i went outside and picked the box back up and brought it inside and no one said anything. Durring the situation she was like "why are you growing mushrooms?", and my response was "they look cool and make a good experiment")

hes told me stories of Sid Barret from pink Floyd giving him some of he best LSD hes ever had, and other stories of him finding 10 pound purple mushrooms in the woods.

I guess hes under the impression you cant cultivate mushrooms.

HAH he walked in 4 days ago when i was putting holes into my WBS jars.

and hes like whats all these jars for.

so I'm like "its new kind of growing substrate for pot"
and he was like "woah, idk"
(hes cool with us blazin in his crib)
he was pretty drunk so he diddent even think twice

it was a close one
YEAH I need an Apartment
but the problem all the 1 bedrooms are like 800 - 1200 a month
for some cappy basement apartment where the land lord is in your ass 10 times a day

but yeah dont you wish everyone was as cool about mushrooms as us

10lb purple mushrooms?

Lovely.

Hope he wasn't telling you they were hallucinogenic. Only one I've heard of that would fit that bill is European. Edible, though, and I don't think they get up to 10lbs. I dunno, a little exaggeration is normal, I suppose.

But if you're stateside, he's full of it.

OK i found the cakes under my moms bed in a zip loc baggy, theres no shrooms or even primordia on the cakes yet. I did take a few slice off and bury them outside, with about 1/2" dirt on top. The slices were very small, so my mom wouldnt notice. Do you think anything will grow from this small mycelium thing. Ive found shrooms outside before and tried to dig up and see what wild mycelium looks like but i didnt even see mycelium. Is there anyways i could try to get peices of the cakes and bury them outside? I was thinking of cutting a cylindrical peice out of the cake, cut the cylinder in half, and plugging the hole back up with the other half of the cylinder, think ittl work?

edit: oh yea and it smells very sour in the bag- probably a bacterial contam

No. don't even bother. Its contaminated if it smells sour. Fuck it. You have a few cakes. Just print a couple mushies from those.

Yeah, even when I do the pf tek I crumble and case. I've got a crumbled and cased amazon grow going on right now. Ill put a pic up later. If you're gonna go onto grains though, you'll need a pressure cooker. I wouldnt reccomend trying to steam sterilize as the bacteria you'll find on grains can withstand it.

LOL thers bigass primordia on the hidden cakes... im gonna try to switch some uncolonized cakes so i can fruit these bad boys! I do not have a pc but i am going to try to use tyndallization to sterelize the grains

i uncovered the wood chips/dirt that is covering one of the small slices outside and theres rhizomorphs everywhere and its even colonizing the woodchips.

Is this is a lot of primordia? Even though this bag has a very sour smell (bacteria) it looks like there is going to be shrooms popping up everywhere soon. by the way these are the cakes my mom is hiding

Do you think this is a joke? The fact is that you are a minor and the colonized substrate was in their house, meaning if anyone was to get busted for it your parents would be the ones going down and losing their assets. Assuming you are under age this also means you shouldn't even be on this forum and you have broken site policy by registering an account.

Apparently you are the one who will not listen, even when presented with the concept of having everything your family owns seized and your lives ruined.

Look man I don't mean to harsh your buzz but you need to be careful, even if you moved it all to another friends house. Personally, I cannot imagine an environment where any reasonably responsible adult would be ignorant enough to not perceive or not care about a mushroom growing operation... I find that incredibly sad.

You might feel better about getting it out from under your moms nose but who knows how careful your friends are, what if they get busted and rat you out? You're too young to be taking such chances man, find yourself a job or something.

OK finally, a shroom grew off one of the cakes at my friends house! but only 1! why is this so small? the humidity is reading kind of low like 80-90 so we taped up half of the holes in hopes to raise the humidity to get some more flushes
