arguing with stupid people

so i had an IM conversation with a girl who i know from real life. so she asked why do i call various stuff pointless and meaningless and why this and that. then she asked what do i think "art" is, or what "liberty". more stuff like that. to everything i answered "that is a meaningless question, only idiots would try to answer that" but she wouldn't let go. she asked if i thought if i was better than everyone else. then i finally got to use a sentence i thought up while tripping in my bed on shrooms, i said "ask less questions and you'll start hearing more answers". something like that, sounds better in my language.
this meant that f.e. "art" has a different meaning to everyone and imo the answer i say today will be different from the one i shall give tomorrow so why try to explain it so someone? what art (or whatever) is to me is a personal understanding, unexplainable to anyone else basicaly) so that's what i said.
and she said "so you don't know, huh! not so smart now" or whatever and i just sighed. i understood that i don't HAVE to talk to her but for some reason i continued.
afterwards i felt soooo tired like never before.

yeah i hate it when someone asks a question that doesn't have a clear black and white answer and because you don't give a "straight" answer it means your wrong or don't know the answer.

Here's a useful way to piss them off. You could have answered the exact same thing, except with really fancier words that she wouldn't understand. Maybe you should have told her something like "Art and Liberty are subjective, every individual has a different idea of what it's like to be free, and what would be considered art."

I had a similar problem with a dumbass christian fanatic who told me after we got into an argument and I brought logic into it that she was 'right' and I was 'wrong' and that she was 'raised knowing' she was 'right' and that I was going to hell. Then she stormed off.
It was all over her saying today's music was turning people evil and that we should listen to country because rock and rap and stuff were made by the devil.

She's not stupid..she's female...when we philosophize we think in theory...not in practical "how does this apply to me?" thinking like a guy does.
Talk to her but either be vague...like to say: "Art is in the eye of the beholder" or change the subject by asking her opinion, as if you want to know. No female can resist being asked her opinion.
Eventually you'll figure out how women think...it's a challenge, but I know you can do it....if it's worth it to you.
Take care man...

Do you think you're better than her? It certainly sounds like it to me from what you said. You basically called her an idiot
I see a lot of contempt in your post; why should she respond to your comments with anything but defensiveness?

i just think she should stfu a lot more and instead just shooting out random questions which i can't answer LIKE her. she has these one-word answers to stuff and thats fine. i just don't want to waste my time on these kind of people unless i really have to.

Art as a word is defined and has its origins, and you can therefore grade pieces of "art" under those definitions. If you don't believe there is a firm concept of what art is, that probably means that you aren't very learned or clever and have somehow been assuming that this words exists, yet it doesn't actually hold any meaning (even tho you still assume to hold a personal sense for what it entails). If you asked me, I would argue that art must present something of beauty or a truth. If you wanted to argue that you'd have to exlpain yourself, and maybe you'd find that you don't have any intelligent thoughts to support your opinion. If art doesn't have a definition, then art isn't anything and can't actually exist.

That's really dumb. The more questions you ask, the more questions that are raised to mind. The more questions that are raised to mind, the more you think. The more you think, the more you understand. Understanding = answers.
It seems that you were the only stupid person in that conversation.

Art may mean something that holds the trait of beauty or truth, but each of those descriptions can be meant to entail a great deal of things. What I may think is beautiful might seen ugly to you and vice-versa.

And if you analyze your reasons for crediting something as ugly or beautiful you might find that you are wrong, or right. Truth is definitive, people's understanding is not. There is definitive beauty and definitive ugliness. People often claim to see beauty in a place that really has no beauty, without realising that the beauty they are aware of actually exists only as a thought in their mind, which was triggered by personal thought association to the ugliness they saw. The same thing applies vice versa.
Difference of oppinion comes from different levels of understanding. Truth is firm.

i just got mad at her because she presented her opinions as statements of definitive truth. that sentence that i said to her basically states what i've experienced: the less you ask with your mouth the more you can think with your fucking head. in the end you, as a human, will have to make your own decisions and form your own opinions, so i suggested to her that maybe if she asks less stupid questions then she might come to the conclusion that everyone has his/her own opinion and that's it, no more arguing. and she wasn't trying to UNDERSTAND my opinion, she tried to prove them wrong and that's what made me mad and i just called her a moron and told her to go stfu.
