How could God let this happen?

I posted this in another post but I really want people to read it and consider it.

My girlfriend was raped from the time she was 9 to the time she was 13 by her step father on nearly a daily basis until she got pregnant, told someone and gave the child up for adoption because she was only 14 at the time of the birth. I watched the effects on her as we started going out while she was still pregnant and now she is 18 and next month will be our 50 month Anniversary, so we have talked at length about this and I have seen the inside and outside of her suffering. So, I think I have prespective on "How could God let this happen?"...I believe God wants humans to work things out for ourselves...all we need is each other, and if people don't carry out their side of the bargain then they will pay. God has given us absolutely everything we need to make everything work, it's up to each of us to do his part. For God to interfere with his creation would be working against God's purpose. My girlfriend didn't suffer because of God, she suffered because of her step dad.

Also, about Eternal Damnation...this is frustrating because people almost always misunderstand...it says in the Bible that Eternal is God's name...God is Eternal...so Eternal Damnation is God's Damnations...God's Damnation is a lesson, if God just cast you into it forever, then what would anyone learn? Eternal does not refer to a period of time in this case.

Once again, this is my interpreation of life, feel free to challenge any part of it with yours.

Hey, I'm glad your girlfriend has a supportive person with her.

I believe in a philosophical god, which is not a sentient god like outlined in the Bible. To me, "god" is the sum total of all of the laws of nature, from gravity to thermodynamics. When the laws are satisfied, perfect harmony results. Like Hawaii before man arrived--a perfectly functioning ecosystem.

So I can't say I believe god "lets" things happen. But this philosophical god does jibe with much of what you say. This, for example:

Taken in terms of ecology, that's exactly what I believe. Unfortunately, the bad guys don't always pay. Not directly anyway. Well, nature isn't passing moral judgements, she's just a complexity of countless cause and effect relationships in motion.

Im glad that your girlfriend was able to make it through such difficult ordeals.

I have a few questions about what you wrote.

How will they pay? and who has the right to make them pay?

Also, how is god's damnation a bad thing? If you look at the philosophy that i presented in the "should we love god" thread, it would seem that i desire to be distanced from god and therefore would be accepting of his damnation although i would not return such feelings.

Hongomon, I also use the idea of god as a philosophical tool. My concern is that in many religions, the bad guy DOES always pay. For this reason, i think that even followers and believers need to theosophically question the idea of atonement and forgiveness as well as punishment and justice in their religions.

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for the insights...

Hongomon - I believe exactly what you believe from what I gather, I just use different terms to express the thoughts.

Answering both of your questions about bad guys paying...to be more direct, I also believe that their is not a God going "He's good" and "He's bad"...it' like Karma, I believe that you get what you give....your heaven or hell will be a direct result of whatever you have done. So, you punish and reward yourself.

You will pay by realising your actions, if your actions were ones that brought on harm and ill tidings than you shall realise what you have done and feel that, the same goes for positive actions.

At least, this is what I believe.

5 years,

age 9 - 3rd or 4th grade
age 13 - 7th or 8th grade

why? did NO ONE notice? if someone did why did they let it to continue to happen? why did she not say anything?, "she didnt know it was wrong" is unacceptable in this case, by 13 (7th 8th grade) you should have "picked up" by the other kids if not sex ed (its 7th grade here for the women) that your father-figure should not be having sex with you.

Dont get me wrong, im not blaming her, the blame should be on her mother and father (step, bio legal guard., dosnt matter)

hes a sick pedophile rapist. and if still alive should immedatly.....

She should be removed from her mother as well, unless her mother knew it was happening, in which case should be sterilized.

Nobody noticed because they excersised poor judmgent. She didn't say anything because she was told that her mother would die if she did. It is impossible even for me to understand what happens when you are being raped from the time you are 9 to the time you are in 7th grade, but I have no trouble believing it was a paralyzing fear. I once read that rapists have a "control complex", they go out of their way to make their victims believe they are under control. She believed he was. She most definitely knew it was wrong from the begining, but he was able to convince her that more trouble would come of telling about it then if she just let it happen. It is easy to see it so clearly now, but in her postion the scene is not quite as clear.

BTW, her step dad is in prison for nearly 18 years and she was, in fact, taken away from her mother (who didn't know it was happening, but perhaps should have).

I feel that we are all part of gods energy, a whole energy that we part from to experience human form. Everything on this planet is powered by the this energy(Life). We should use this energy for good not bad or good karma, you get what you give. This energy is in constant flow and never stops, even after death. This flow moves slower during life and faster after death......where it goes from there, after this experience........? I am very sorry to hear about your loved ones unfortunate experiences, she will have great fortune in her life to come

Consider for a moment 'God' is not seperate from us at all, that he does not allow things to happen or not to happen, that because he exists, we exist. Because there is no difference from God/'physical world'. They are the same.
