I saw another thread about this but i cant find it now:( Can i put my cakes in 1 pint jars full of distilled water for 12 hours in the fridge? This would re-hydrate and cold shock the cake, right?
Thanks, Fd

Yes, that is the way to go. Make sure you are using contamination guards

Refridgerators are full of contams. Filthy! Besides that, cubensis don't need to be cold shocked.

Then why do alot of people cold shock? PR's are hard to fruit, or so i hear....
Well my idea was go onto a fairly steril area, with the clean 1 pint jar, distilled water and the jar. Birth the cake directly into the 1 pint jar, fill 1 pint jar right up to the rim with distilled water, put the lid on and put 1 pint jar with cake+water in the fridge. This would reduce the chances of contams, right?
I thought it was uncommon for cakes to get contams after fully colonized, unless the contam was already in the cake, right?

Yeah you can.
I usually do this after the 1st flush though.
then my 2nd flush will start in less than 4 days.

i almost always dunk in the fridge, helps prevent any contams from growing in the dunk water. plus you get the free cold shock, can't hurt, might help.

I tried cold shocking once, I didnt see the change I thought would happen, I bet the dunking may be a catalyst along with the chill though...................................

ok this is what i been told and currently doing.....i colonized 12 1/2 pint jars....i only used 2 jars and i put the rest in the fridge until later use. when i am ready to use the ones in the fridge i open the jar and cut the cake in half put back in the jar and fill with spring water. i leave it in the frige from 12-24 hours. then i take out and use them...repeat this for a 2nd flush adn so on...don't know what others say about this but i have doing this for a baout a yerar now. i have had the jars in the fridge for 1 year and they still work great. just got to dunk them first...
