Meditation through musical instruments

I am curious if anyone has any experience or an opinion on meditating through the playing of a musical instrument. What I mean is that often while I am playing my bass I enter a state of mind and become extremely focused on what I am playing. I improvise and almost "zone-out". The longer I keep playing for the deeper I go into this state of mind. I'm wondering if this could actually be a valid or useful form of meditation? What are your thoughts on this?

Why couldn't it be? I find that a wicked jam with some creative lines that I have never played before really makes things all better

When I'm playing an instrument i go into a sort of meditation type thing.
What it feels like to me is that when I'm playing music i am totally living in the moment, I'm not really thinking much, not thinking of the past or future or anything, I'm just in the moment playing music, and that feeling is the feeling that makes me feel alive.
It's better than any drug I've ever done. Just pure expression.

"if I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: 'The only proof he needed for the existence of God was music.'" Kurt Vonnegut
Playing music is a form of meditation and so much more, to me. It's about the communion of souls, the creation of expression, pure emotion.

My meditative instrument of choice is my 15th century replica of German Bagpipes.
I love the drone (the continuous note played against the melody) It reminds me of the Tryptamine buzz and it is something you can really zone out with. It is kinda like if you were to tune a guitar to open tuning.
While the drone is in my control sometimes I feel I am out of control as to when I am playing the Chanter (Melody Pipe)
The bagpipes fills the air with sound, and melody, action and rowdy bliss.

I've always thought of music as a kind of shamanic experience.
These sounds are possibilities that exist, floating out in the universe somewhere, we focus ourselves
and focus
and attenuate our consciousness to their level
becoming vehicles from which these sounds emerge
and boy, are they pleasurable

Apolly, you ever try playing easternish music on your bagpipes, or Even just fuck around with eastern scales? The drone is characteristic of indian music, and itd be crazy to hear bagpipes do that . Actually Ive only heard bagpipes play that characteristic Irish music...
But yea, the drone is kind of like a long om. The drone really helps in understanding what harmony, melody, and rythmn really are, (or actually, what is really each) all in relation to om.

Of course!
I believe I only have one Eastern Song in my "setlist" called Nevi Cengi Harbi, which was a Sultan's Parade song I think and know a piece of a Song called Chou Chou Sheng from 3000 B.C. China I believe.
Bagpipes are more eastern than anything!
I play Greecian Style songs, Italian, German, French, Albanian, English, and other random parts around Europe/The east and have some I wrote in the same style as all of the above.
Bagpipes originated in either Afrika or Sumer.
