If no one ever left, we could dry our eyes - at least until the population hit 30 billion. Then it would be like: 'Please go!'

But many believers think that death is a transition to another, better form of existence.
So why would anyone become sad if they believe their dead loved one not only still exists but is in a better place?

Maybe we are all just a little secretly jelouse that it is them, and not us....?

I'd be sad if I lost a loved one and would never be seeing them again, regardless of where they're going. They could be going to Amsterdam, but if I was never going to see them again, I'd be sad. I remember how sad I was when I had a relationship break up because my girlfriend was transferring to another school. It wasn't the kind of breakup where there were any hard feelings, but I cried my eyes out because I wouldn't see her anymore. Grief is not really an altruistic feeling.

All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

i cried when my grandmother died because i loved her so much and it was so difficult for me to say goodbye to her. things just aren't the same without her in my life and i had many regrets about us not having more time together (when i was 7, we moved to anothe state so i didn't get to see her often). however, i didn't feel sorry for her for the fact that she died, she was very ill and in a lot of pain and i definitely believe she is in a better place now. even if we cease to exist when we die, not existing is arguably a lot better than existing in a lot of pain all the time.

i cried like a violin string when my mother died
i hid in the shadows when my brother died
i expected none of that, grief strikes and shapes me in odd ways.
last night I thought I really understood impermanence of personal existence, and for a few minutes I was very encouraged.

my mind keeps shifting around tho
and what I think really is not what matters.
but it is related to totality
which does.

That's like becoming sad that your loved one just won the lottery, isn't it?

Am I missing something or do the faithful doubt the existence of the afterlife even though they express 100% certainty in its existence?

What do you think?

You can't just lump in all the faithful in one basket. There is just too much diversity out there.
I think of, in particular, the funerals that take place in the south by blacks - much music and rejoicing; the Irish wake - much celebrating the life of the departed friend.
After all, funerals are for the living, not the dead.

Personally, I did not not cry when either my mother or brother died. I was very sad, but that is just because I would have liked to spent more time with them.

You are a fortunate person indeed, if you can begin each day accepting the fact that during that day there will be ups and downs, good breaks and bad ones, disappointments, surprises, and unexpected turns of events.

When you have solved all the mysteries of life you long for death, for it is but another mystery of life.

So what exactly is this grief you speak of?
