WOO HOO! POO!:shocked::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

First let me say I've ordered from Mycosupply before and I love the product I got and the fast shipping.

You do nice work with your petri dishes.  Much better than mine.  I always wind up tipping a few ( like 3 out of 10 ) of the dishes and getting agar up on the lid.  I'm clumsy like that.

I just played around with my order because of the way the shipping kept working out.  I found that if I ordered 8 bags of the hpoo rather than 10 ( which is how much I wanted ) the shipping cost went down by from $35 to $20.50.  Initially I thought heck I'll just order more and get 15 bags in one order to save on shipping but then the shipping went up to $75 when the order was only $82.50 in product.  Granted normally that would be $165 in product.  So if a person wanted to order 16 bags they would want to split their order into two orders of 8 bags since it'll save half the cost of shipping.. roughly.

Lana I realize this means twice the packing for you would you have a better suggestion on saving on the shipping costs?  I'm just thinking more people will order if they shipping cost isn't prohibitive.

Hope you had a nice time off.
C.H.

I have a question for ya Lana . It says to rehydrate the product and then pasteurize .

Since it's dry , couldn't you warm it , pasteurize it , while it was still dry and then hydrate with distilled or boiled water and be done?

Why would you have to pasteurize after it's mixed ? You're only adding "clean" water to it , and maybe some verm .

Many contaminants are dormant when dry, and therefore heat resistant. They need to be hydrated to become active so they can be killed off by pasteurization.

Not to take this thread too far off topic but does that mean that you should let the rehydrated poo sit for 24 hours prior to pasturizing it so that all the little endospores-thinger-ma-bobs germinate or what ever? I don't remember you saying that in the video.

Getting back on topic Myco Supply rocks! I'm going to order another round I think :P

Before I do I wanted to ask about the fact that it's all in pellet form. How much does that effect the texture? Is vermiculite or coir, or straw a required addative to avoid turning it into mud?

Thanks RR .

You know , I can buy that for grains and such , but we're talking shit here .

I remember Coda having a good run with using unpasteurized shit , just mix it up and spawn . Had a problem with some bugs , but I don't remember him having a terrible contam problem .

Might give it a try .

HC, regardless of whether particular contaminants are resistant to heat while dry or not, there's the simple issue that dry substances have little to no heat conductivity. Think of trying to warm a 1 ft by 1ft block of something a bit fluffy like sawdust. You could get that to 160 degrees in under an hour, no problem, via flame/oven. Dry...well I doubt you'd manage to heat dry wood above that without hours and excessive temperatures.

The high specific heat also adds a temperature buffer, to make sure your substrate doesn't get too hot, too fast, in parts.

Hi everyone,
To answer chuckleheads' question... "would you have a better suggestion on saving on the shipping costs?"

Sadly, I do not.  Our website is tied directly into UPS's servers.  Which means that the quotes generated come from UPS.  They have their own rules regarding pricing based off a an items weight and where its being shipped to.

And for Hippie Chick, pasteurize!

Like RR and CaptainLinger mentioned, dry heat just won't cut it.  Our manure is not pasteurized so you should take the necessary measures to make sure you don't have any contaminates in your work.

Need anything else, please ask.

Dry heat and moist heat simply operate very differently :frown: Why the dedication to not hydrating first? At best a ridiculous time drain, at worst completely ineffective.

RR is right about contaminants. It's not a hard visible shell, it's on a microbiological level, from what I understand. The fluffiness of your dung, and relative hardness of WBS kernels, are unrelated to this; perhaps someone might correct me.

I for one, start out with about 10 pounds of dry, and dump it in a pot of 175 degree water. It evens out very quickly at 170, reduces to 150 after an hour/hour and a half, at which point I drain, wait for cooling, and squeeze down to field capacity and spawn.

Still gonna give it a try .

I've been here long enough to know if I listened to everyone without trying something new , I'd be using coir as a casing layer and still fruiting my casing's at 82% humidity instead of 99% .

I know in actuality it might not "work" , but it might work good enough for me . I've seen peeps try a lot "sillier" things .

Nope.

I think the pillowcase thing is intended to efficiently pasteurize long lengths (not very shredded) straw for a 50/50 mix. You can add the pure hpoo to the top that way.

I find 100% pure hpoo to work wonderfully. It also doesn't really rise above the surface of the water, and it gets hydrated with pasteurization temperature water immediately; a stir or two will serve the same purpose.

Nope...

Horses are fed a pretty static diet, and although you need to be sure of a few very basic things (no cedar for bedding in it, no ammonia, etc), all hpoo is pretty much the same. I'm sure Graham does it up right, and you'll have really good results.

Personally I find it easier to make friendly with a farm, and that's what I've done. I grab about 300 pounds a run, which makes around 800lb (I think?) wet. Free!

Re: Dehydrated Horse Manure - 50% OFF - Stock up now! [Re: mytymyc]

Let me say a couple things before I begin. First I'm not that experienced of a grower. You'll see in my grow logs that I'm still getting a feel for my favorites. Second this is a little off topic and should probably be posted in the cultivation area. However since we're still talking poo here and it's a good bump for http://www.mycosupply.com I'll post it anyhow. Third I tend to be wordy because I believe that if I give you the why behind the answer you'll be able to adjust my advice to your needs.

I've never actually pasteurized poo myself before. I've always bought it pre done. However I have pasteurized a number of different casing materials (MGMC being my favorite at the moment).

I like pasteurizing using MonsterMich's method for pasteurizing bulk substrates and casings. Blutjager pointed me that direction and I'm sure glad he did. Here is the link.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5669077/an/0/page/0

As per Blutjager's advice I go a little on the dry side of field capacity since you can mist up to the desired moisture levels with casings. However with bulk substrate I'll be shooting for right at field capacity when I am ready to use this poo.

I really hate using the pillow case method. I tried it with straw a couple times and I didn't like it at all.

Also I'm not overly fond of spawn bags. I think they are a pain in the tail and I don't like the colonization speed I've had with them. That's based on my very limited experience with them. From what I can tell there just isn't enough air in the bag to get the hpoo to colonize properly without somehow re-inflating it. I have had much better results from opening the bag of pre-pasteurized poo and putting it in a 12 Quart Sweater tub. This has some advantages that I can see. First and best is you can layer your poo and spawn grain. That is a major plus. Second the poo is automatically in the shape of the container in which you are going to fruit. Third is you get much better air exchange by simply putting a foil lid on the tub and poking holes in the lid with a mechanical pencil. Then covering the holes with gentle paper tape. 4 inches of hpoo in a 12 quart sweater tub colonized fully in 7 days off of 2 quarts of spawn grain. I just thought of another advantage. I use a glove box instead of a flow hood. I find that trying to spawn grain to a bag of poo in a glove box is difficult. I'm sure my method is probably a great many times more likely to contaminate but it hasn't been a problem for me yet.

Take that for what it's worth based on my limited experience.
Good Luck!
C.H.
