If you're using canning jars like ball or kerr you can pressure cook them, I did it. There meant to withstand pressure. I've used tapered heat resistant glasses that are for coffee and hot tea before and nothing happened to them.
Hope this helps.

This is straight from the jar manufacturers:
Canning jars are tempered to withstand the add forces of pressurization. Utilizing Mayonaise jars and the like will result in a higher probability of cracked jars due to the small scratches caused by the insertion of utinsels into the jars. Now I know I will get jumped for this because I'll bet everyone trys all kinds of jars, but READ THE TOP!
That's what the jar manufacturers say! Granted, they want you to buy their product, but hey jars aren't all that expensive, but I am always looking for alternative, cheaper jars! BTW tempering means that they run them thru an oven that is barely below the melting point of the glass, this relieves internal pressures in the glass inherent during their manufacture. Less stress in the glass ='s a stronger container.

I've just tried pressure cooking jars which weren't suitable for a pressure cooker...

...no problems what-so-ever.

as long as there is a way for the air to go into the jars, such as holes or having the lids loosened, there should be no problems at all because there is no difference in pressure inside and outside of the jars. adn the 250F temp should be no problem for any type of glass. the only problem would be with different pressure inside and outside the jar.
