Ok, here are my friend's pictures:
The first one (below) are jars that have been inoculated for a week. Notice the center, the area that looks smooshy...is that how mycelium starts to grow? He didn't see any green spots, so that's good...but no white either. Take a look:
The next picture is a jar that has been inoculated for only 3 days (so he's not as worried).
He has 10 jars total he just split them into 2 rows (5 in each row) and laid down a 2 liter full of frozen water in between them to try to cool them down. Hopefully this will help speed up the process and/or recover from any damage the jars might have taken from the AC breaking. Whatcha think?

When mycelium just starts to grow, it is easily mistaken for condensation on the jar. In fact, I always wound up giving my jars a good wipes with my thumb to make sure that's not what it was, for my first few grows.

cool cool. Right now I've got two jars with definite signs of growth. I and think I'm going to try out Ralph for my next spore order. Thanks guys. If condensation is a sign of growth then thats a good thing for me. I see some on the sides of the jars that don't show any unmistakable signs growth yet.

my friend is thinking that putting the frozen 2-liter bottles next to the jars might be causing some consendsation or moisture on the inside of the jar (or maybe its the mycellum).

Mycelium does that under normal conditions. Should be fine as long as you aren't seeing it heavily in uncolonized areas.

I see colonization in four of the ten jars that I inoculated and it's been about two weeks since I did. Should I start to get worried about the other ones. I can't think of any possible differences in the conditions some of the jars have had over the others. Could it just be contamination? I took precautions such as a glove box and flaming the needle before inoculating. Do you think the the ones that aren't showing any activity are a lost cause?

Two weeks is a long time. I had a few that never germinated and I'm sure it's because I injected the innoculant into the dry verm instead of the substrate. Did you make sure to push the needle all the way into the substrate?

Ya, I'm pretty sure I did inject it into the wet verm. But it's entirely possible that I am in error about that. It's so frustrating not to know.

Can you post a picture of your jars that are colonizing?

What's the deal with using manure as a substrate? If I've only got a few good cakes do you think that would be a viable option? At least then I could get a decent yield.
If so what kind of manure do I use?
PS. I don't have a digital camera yet. I'll try and get a hold of one some time today and take a few pics.
