Free Spore Ring Shroomery idea

OK my theory is, that we could start a community project where we find a member who will hold large stocks of prints from everyone and distribute them out to people who pay 2 dollars. The 2 dollars will be used to send the prints through the mail "should costs like 39 cents.." then the rest will be saved up and the use of this save up money will be determined later "cause I'm fucked up right now and didn't know any ideas" something like "the money will be split up equally amongst the top 10 spore print donors and the person who keeps everything running at the end of each quarter year" The more you donate the more of a chance you have to split the profits, i hope that an incentive like getting free money would help get enough people to actually decide to make prints of their shrooms for those who don't have any shrooms to grow. What do you guys think? cause well once i start growing i want to spore print everything i can and donate them for less fortunate growers but I'm not seeing much action in all those free spore ring Europe and Canada so i think we should make a free spore print ring USA "and we only ship to the USA" If anyone would be willing to help set this up id be more than willing to donate to it as soon as possible *is working with b+, "A" strain, golden teacher, treasure coast, and r44. please give me some feedback on this idea, i think it would work, but just needs a little more structure work.

oh and id like to keep this within the shroomery community if at all possible. so maybe its a memeber who would be willing to hold onto a ton of spores and keep track of who is sending them all in and how many they have sent in. and could do the dirty work of reading requests and mail out shit with the money sent with the requests. than the money can be split between the top 5 donors, and if this works well there should easly be 100 dollars maybe more to split amonst the top 5. and this can happen monthly. of course after the guy doing all the work gets his cut. I want a place that i know is still up and going that i can donate my prints to and can even get some other types of prints from there too.

and if this were set up correctly, than you would be able to and get one quickly. It would be a community project so i need your guys help here. Basically im trying to find a highly respected member/mod/admin who would be the person who will take notes of who donates what and how much and keeps the site updated on what is available and what isnt, someone who will recieve mail and send mail back out, someone who would be willing to split the left over money with the highest donor/s each month. Im still not sure whether or not it should be top 5 donors and worker get money or just the top donor and the worker. and who knows maybe the money could be converted to something completely different like to maintain this site and the admin could give out one month supporter accounts to the 5ish highest donors each month. oh and maybe we should just deal with half spore prints, so there is twice as many to give out. what do you think?

if we sent an envelope to the guy who stocks all the prints with a SAE inside the envelope, then it could be a worldwide thing. since after all we have already paid the postage for it to be sent to us so its not much hassle.
i think the idea about a donation is good. an added incentive is always good.
i would definately donate a few prints

Instead of starting another spore ring that wont get the donations it needs and just take them from the two that are barley making it. why not just donate to spore ring Canada or spore ring Europe that will ship to the states or anywhere in the world for only 2$. the Canada one is failing from lack of donations. There was a free spore ring in the states it closed and donated everything to the free spore ring Canada. Why start another one When there is already two that will send some to you.

Is spore ring Canada still open??? I went to the site the other day and there were no spores available...I know they were in trouble...There was a member generated spore ring years ago...Was pretty popular too...

but we could encourage people with good grows to send prints, and prints would only be exchanged amongst shroomery members. we'd have the most extensive selection because of our fantic community.
you could have a print moderator, and a user print count/ rating statistics perhaps.
it would also add a cool social dynamic to the shroomery.

You are not allowed to make any profit off of spore prints or spore syringes... here at the Shroomery, unless you are a Sponsor/Vendor... so that idea needs to be dumped right away.
There has been 2 Free Spore Rings in the USA since Ralph closed his original Free Spore Ring... both of those failed rather quickly. And one guy ran off with a crap load of prints that were donated to him... which I believe was his true motivation behind starting a Free spore Ring!~
Nothing personal...but I don't think I'd trust a newbie running a Free Spore Ring ever again.
If there was to be another Free Spore Ring USA... $1.00 is more than enough to pay for a stamp and envelopes. I know because I have given away around a thousand prints to newbies... over the years. and no...I'm not interested in running a Free Spore Ring!~ It's a royal pain in the ass!~
The Shroomery can not be involved with the Free Spore Rings... that would be a conflict of interest.
I'd like to see an upstanding member start a Free Spore Ring USA... since the Canadian and European ones seem to be having problems. But maybe the answer is sending them donations of prints instead.
There is a VVV free spore print VVV thread and a VVV free spore syringe VVV thread in the Marketplace forum... but that forum is not viewable to newbies til they have 90 days and 50 posts.
This thread is off topic... but I will allow it to stay here for the time being.

I agree with MYSTIQUE. Why spend effort to start a new spore ring when it could be better spent to support the ones that already exist?

I went to those free spore sites and well the free spore ring canada hasnt been updated since February 3rd, 2007, and the free spore ring europe hasnt been updated since may and its almost july, these signs of inactivity makes me not trust that any spores/orders will even get to them. I thought it would be better to have a smaller version of a FSR and have it just for members of the shroomery. I guess it would work to charge just one dollar or even less if possible.

Hey, Road', just an idea:
If you did want to include "extra money" (the $2 or even $5 for that matter)...
Could go in a paypal fund, etc. The money at the end of each month (or quarter) would be used to buy a "shroomery gift card".
This gift card could buy a contest prize or given to the highest print donator. The gift card would also only be able to be spent at a Shroomery sponsor.
That's my solution to the "no making money unless you're a vendor" problem.
What do you think about that, Grey-Beard?
How many requests do you think one person/ring would receive in one month?

sounded good to me, i dont really care about the prize personally, id just like a better way to get and donate spores and figured that would be a good way to get people to start donating.

yeah i'd feel alot better about a shroomery members only spore ring. i like giving away prints, but i get nervous after so many poeple know my address. thats why i like the shroomery based ring, because i can send them all to one place who will distribute them.
i think it would be a great addition to shroomer, worth any extra effort.

I agree with RK, starting another spore ring, while existing spore rings need strengthening, makes no sense.
That said, $2 per print is very reasonable, considering as RK said... its a "royal pain in the ass". If someone were to take on this project they should be allowed to keep the extra dollar for their time, trouble, storage, etc....
Having one person pass these spores out for everyone else, with no allowance for their time and trouble, makes them a volunteer! If they kept the extra money it would still be a free spore ring, since you are only covering the costs.

OK there can never ever be a Shroomery spore ring as roadkill said that would be a conflict of interest. Good luck keeping sponsors selling what they give away for free and shroomery is here for information and does not support the growing of illegal mushrooms so for them to send out prints and still try and say they are just a library and what our members end up doing with the information.... goes right out the window and shroomery is closed down.
also if you looked on the front page of the free spore ring Canada the only reason its not doing anything is cuz the community is not supporting it till they think they can get something out of it. Start sending them prints and they will start sending them out they have none left cuz they gave out 100's maybe 1000's and got only a few prints and alto of promises. The free spore ring Europe is only down till one of the 2 that runs it gets back on her feet something about an operation and the other person that runs it taken care of her.
also for someone to start another free spore ring and be trusted would have to have like 5000 posts and 6 years of being here
There is already a place where shroomery members giveaway and trade spores and syringes and when you are trusted they will let you in.
Also if you even mention that you might need a spore in a none begging way you will be surprised at the amount of PMS you get from people who have been around a while and have very large collection and a extra stamp.

Yeah i just found out about the market place, have to wait 90 days till i can be let in, im really interested in being let into the grow logs section, ive read every page of the grow log sub forum already, it would be nice to see what is currently happening this year. Anyone know how long i have to wait till it will appear? Well if the europe spore ring starts becoming a little more active ill be donating as much as possible within the next couple months if everything goes to plan.

That was the 1st thing I thought when I read the title of this thread
Most people here who have a print or two up for grabs are more than willing to trade, and make up contests.givaways.etc..I know when I have something I will not be using I don't mind letting someone have it who will and there are plenty of other members here that feel the same way

I guess with how nice this community is to each other, esp to new people , there really is no need for a new spore ring. This place is like one big family lol. hmm only like two and a half months till i can go into the market place *makes 74 paper christmas rings to count down*

i agree with you and roadkill, but even I have wanted to go in a separate direction than just the free spore ring.
id really like to share what i can develop from LC's. I understand LC's can make a single syringe into tons of viable syringes of mycelium. so i was thinking of running something with donations and then sending out syringes filled with mycelium from LC's.
but my ideas are still very early and not very well organized right now.

That would be illegal. Mycelium contains some psilocybin. If you were to do this, you are looking at some HEFTY charges.

whether you guys believe it or not, vendors are people like you and me from this very site who have just decided to turn their hobby into a business.
they are the people who should really be supporting the community in terms of giving stuff away, and many do. but hey, capitalism at its finest.
yeah, i thought i could run into some problems with LC.. i dont get why spores are legal, but mycelium would be illegal. or if it would even be classified as mycelium.

A spore has no traces of psilocybin, therefore, there are no actives which make it illegal. When it germinates and grows into mycelium, it starts producing psilocybin...Or that is my understanding anyway.

sometimes spore syringes end up growing mycelium while in the mail. I think at that point no one is at fault, an act of god!

It Would be kick ass to get a l.c. of some cloned killer strain but then again you could end up in prison if you made it a habit to trade them especially openly with a free l.c. ring threw international mail.

Customs isnt that great at finding anything, if it has an address and a return address it usually gets through. Ive seen a pound of weed sent through the mail from europe without getting caught lol. Anyways unless you claim the package as yours after customs finds it then they wont do anything more than open your package, put a pink note in it saying "what ever you are doing is illegal, stop it" and send the empty package to you. Just have to be smart about stuff. Its not your fault that some retard is sending you illegal stuff in the mail ;-) They could in all be setting you up so your not at risk, and if the package has a fake return address they will never figure out who sent it.

or if you donate a certain amount like 10 prints, than you can order 2 that month. I dont see the problem in allowing people who donate often to get an extra one each month. Cause they will probally in return grow those and print them and donate again.

They already trade if ya ask.
The free spore ring is not a starting place to be given your first spores for free. It is more of a library of all the different strains. For people already doing pretty well. Don't forget they are free spores and who knows who made them maybe a glove box maybe on a basement table you never know and it could be contaminated they don't check them and you wouldn't even know till ya messed up all your jars unless you are good with agar. Buy a 10$ syringe and you are certain with a guarantee that its good.

Yeah i completely agree with you, thats why im giving ralph business and there is a few members who asked me if id like some spores also. I was looking at the spore ring idea as a place that i cant send prints to some day without worrying if the prints would never be receieved and go to waste because the spore rings seem to be inactive.

Not inactive I just got some red-boy from fsre last month like 3 days before it went down for medical reason should be back up next month send em a get well card. I sent my money on like a Monday and the next Tuesday i had my spores. The Canada one is inactive but only cuz the community isn't active with it. Send them some Prints and watch them start to come back to life. he has been begging for spores for months now and they are both trust worthy to send your spores to. There is also no worry about the spores making it to Canada or Europe in any amount our customs just don't care at all. So instead of starting a new spore ring try and start a new support group for them(fsrc could really use it).

im just going to be starting my first grow on monday. I have five strains, and two more on their way. I just need to decide which strain i wanna grow for my first time. i have "a" strain, B+, golden teacher, treasure coast, r44 (all from ralphs) and a very kind memeber offered me a texas strain, and i dont know what the other one coming is. I thought deciding which strain to order was hard (ended up ordering a bunch instead of deciding on just on) now i cant decide which one i want to grow first. Too bad i cant just do an outdoor grow. then i would do a couple different ones. I live in utah and the weather isnt friendly to mushrooms. anyways hopefully by the time i get fruits, they will be up and running again cause i would like trade to start collecting different strains prints "like collecting coins"

spore prints are for the more skilled because:
1. agar will be used 2. skilled mycolgists dont want to pay 10 bucks to increase their library 3. spore prints are much easier to catolog and store.
spore syringes are for the average mushroom grower. like me.

i could understand paying that much for a hard to find print. The one print i'd love to have is one i read about on here and it had a picture, the cap was violet and i guess each vender got a print of it to try getting someone to grow and isolate it and well i guess it just dissapeared. I cant find the thread about it. i read about it late one night while in a different staight of mind.

I can recommend FSRE because they are very dependable and also nice high spirits. Many times I got my free spores within 10 days.
Because Ingrid has broken her leg, Eric has to do, at the moment, the homework and the shopping etc.
As you may know, they deliver spores also to the USA - so why not send to those two extremely brave people some of your surplus spores. I'm sure they would be in heaven when they open your many letters.
www.fsre.nl
As my father used to say: Deliver not to lament. We want to see the postman collapse. He got to ring the bell with his elbows because he carries so many letters from the USA.... from YOU... and YOU... and YOU... and... YOU too?
Good shroom
PS: I do not tell you a big secret, when I write here, that the spores just love to fly across the ocean.... by LSD Airline that is.

Dear all,
I did read a lot of the post above and I like to react.
The FSRE is doing fine for 5 years know, thanks to all donaters and supporters. We did celebrate that with an asome contest for shroomery members only. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=43&Number=6682675&fpart=&PHPSESSID=
We try to answer the many emails we receive daily at the same day.
We did not receive any emails asking if we were doing okee? And our website tells that Ingrid has a severe knee injury and that that takes a lot of our time.
If people wanna start a new spore ring thats super, but do not use the fsre or fsrc to make your cause stronger. Thats no way to deal with things. At least I mis respect in doing like that.
The last year we helped starting a russian and a new argentina ring (#3). Do not know how the are running. This way those people can use there own currancy too. We support all people even those without money.
The FSRC has no strains availeble due to less donations and more request I gues. I did read someting about it on there website. It is hard to keep stock updated but we seem to have a steady stock in numbers right know and we had paneolus strains for more then 7 months. Why not raising prints for the FSRC. With the same energy the FSRC could have had many prints by know
Gues 2 emails to fsrc and frse could have told more than all speculation.

Erik is right... about alot of things here and I couldn't resist posting my comments as well.
The FSRE and FSRC have both been running for 5 years. At times donations are slow and we have both helped each other out the best we can. Both the FSRE and FSRC send prints worldwide. No Exceptions! If another FSR is in the works somewhere... all the better, it's all about sharing, but if they expect it to be easy or profitable, they are in for a shock (and I'm sure Erik will agree).
In regards to the current state of the FSRC... I will address a few concerns.
As it says on the website, we need donations, and have for a long time. For every print that has been coming in, we get 10 requests. Hard to keep up that way. Over 15,000 have been sent out. No... the website has not been updated in a long time, because... lack of donations means no prints added to what is available. No... I have not been posting here much... reason... when I post here, the requests increase, which means a lot more people are left waiting, and complaining how slow things are. No... We have not closed, and hopefully I will have a new update coming for the FSRC in the very near future.
A year ago, anyone requesting a print from the FSRC could expect to see it arrive in a week or so. Simply because the prints were here to be sent out. If you want to see this type of service from the FSRC again... it will require donations from anyone who can donate. The FSRE is under the same restrictions as I am, we need prints to send out. If you want the services to continue in a timely fashion... send in your print donations.
Many people have sent in cash donations (and not even requested a print) and although it is greatly appreciated, and has helped to keep our PO Box alive, we really need the print donations. After all... that's what it is all about, right?
Thanks for listening Shdwstr

Thanks for the reminder to donate some of my prints to FSRC. They seem beleaguered, I've never ordered from them.
The gist of this thread is that operating a spore ring is a shitload of work. The idea isn't remarkable, the amount of work is. God bless FSRE/C for what has to be considerable time invested. If you'd like to start it, start it.
I for one, side with Ralph and others. Getting a syringe that's guaranteed to arrive viable, contributions to this site, and a guaranteed strain are immensely handy.

Not at the FSRC.
Reasons
1.) Papertrail and paypal security rules. 2.) By the time paypal takes their cut, we would lose money on every print sent out.
I'm a nice guy, but I draw the line at losing money :-)

Don't be so strict on formal things... it is not so easy for a flying Dutchman to arrange all sentences in a correct way... maybe it should read: Please send an empty envelope, with your own address on the front-side, to us. Do not put a stamp on your own envelope. We are going to put the stamp on your envelope. That is why we need your 2$ - in order to buy the stamp.

Also the FSRE does not like to work with Paypal. We have seen to many thing go wrong with that company. Further we like to work low profile. I gues thats some how safer for the FSRE and for her customers. We do not keep record and paypal does.
There is no competition between FSRE and FSRC. We serve the same goal and we have always helped each other out. We started in the same year and know each other from the same website (The Shroomery). Both we did find a nice working methode. FSRC loves the PM features on this board and we choose for regular email. I gues when I lived somewere else I would go for PM too. We both found a way to update our website and to manage the stocks. We both have periods of less to no prints like having periods of rain. And we both need a break every now and then. And i gues we both like to be invited at a big congress about entheogene's/peace and the world

if i started a U.S spore ring for shroomery members only, who could send prints at the moment to get the inventory started? i only have two strains and several prints of each. which isnt much to start a spore ring with. i am in college, but still have plenty of time to organize this.
show me some support and there will be a shroomery/us spore ring. pledge some prints, when it hits 50 prints total, we will have a spore ring.
