Motherwort?

Today I was walking in the woods near my house when I came upon some plants that looked similar to Leonotis leonurus ‘Wild Dagga/Lion’s Tail’. I instantly recognized the plant must be in the motherwort family. Most of the plants I found had white flowers, but some had very light purple flowers. The flower clusters resembled L. leonurus flowers very closely besides the color of the petals. The leaves were maybe 2 inches long and thin as a pencil. The entire plant was 2-3 feet tall. I continued walking through the woods and crossed over the stream that runs through that area. A few minutes later I found before myself an abundance of the look-alike plant, growing wild everywhere. I had never seen the plant before today and I’ve been out in those woods many times before. They were beautiful. On an impulse, I broke away a piece of a flower cluster and smelled it. It smelled strongly lemony and minty. The smell was quite mesmerizing and I kept smelling it over and over. I put it in my mouth and the taste was the same. It began to lightly burn my lips. I bit down on it a few times and held it in my lips as I walked. The sensation grew and after a minute or two my lips were really burning, but it wasn’t painful. I kinda liked it. I am guessing the plant has medicinal properties. I wanted to collect seed but it was too early. Does anyone know what this plant I found could be?

Almost all the flowers I saw were white and the leaves were shorter. Hopefully I can go back and get some pics in the next few days.
I didn't eat it, I tasted it. I am quite certain it is in the motherwort family and know of no poisonous or harmful plants in the motherwort family.
