cracked my fc lid :-(

I prepped my fc today with about 240 holes but I made a crack across the top of the lid (about 9-10 inches long). Is this a problem or should I just tape it up?

when i dropped a bedframe on my fc i smashed a pretty big hole in it. i just use cling film/pvc wrap to cover it and then tape sides.

I'll tell you right now absolutely nobody needs that many holes! I'm not sure why this is becoming an issue this can only lead to excessive evaporation of the casing layer and is in no way necessary! I've been hearing quite a few people having their casing layers drying out way faster than necessary when drilling holes here more it not better. For now just leave the crack it won't hurt anything. People lets be practical understanding what is necessary is important but why is the key to understanding the mushrooms.

It all depends on the size of the FC. If you can maintain upper 90's humidity, then the more holes the better. Air exchange is the key to contaminant avoidance and good pinsets. However, if you over do it on the holes, performance will suffer if you can't keep up with good humidity. If you're unable to maintain humidity with all your holes, begin taping them up until you can maintain 95%. That will be the sweet spot.
Many people also don't realize that if you double the diameter of a hole, you increase its area by four times. That means a 1/4" hole is four times as large as a 1/8" hole, and a 1/2" hole is four times as large as a 1/4" hole. You can dry out your terrarium in a hurry if you have too much.
With this system, it also helps to run a humidifier in the room your terrarium is located, if you live in a dry or air conditioned climate. If your ambient humidity is in the 50% range, your terrarium will do much better than if it's in the 10% range. RR

I think this is very relevant to the humidity discussion which is popular right now.
Here RR says 95% is the sweet spot, which is the same thing I am saying within a few degrees.

RR, in your vid, you are drilling a FC with what looks to be a bad ass DeWalt Cordless drill. How many holes did you end up drilling in that bad boy and what size drill bit did you use? I ask because I have the same tub and I used a 3/8 bit.

I used 1/4" drill bit. I never counted the holes. I just wing it. However, a 3/8" hole is more than twice the size of a 1/4" hole, so you'll need to use less than half as many. I've had better success with this style terrarium by using more holes of a smaller size. RR

Would you say, there is no such thing as too many holes in an FC, provided the humidity is usually around 95%
