(total newbie) is my mycobag contaminated? what do i do?

ok it's my first time attempting to grow and i understood mycobags to be the easiest (and cheapest) but now i'm not so sure. so i ordered a manure filled mycobag from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250131552975&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=250133377155&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_
i thought i could do the complet process in the bag, but now i am wondering if i should have ordered a grain based bag instead?
ok next i ordered my spores from spores 101 and i was surprised at how they arrived: with the needle separatd from the syringe. i had imagined that the needle would be on the syringe and then i would sterilize the needle and then shoot it in. but there was the extra step of putting the needle onto the syringe which actually exposed the liquid to the air (did i do this wrong it seemed like the only way to do it) and seems likely to be my point of contamination.
well anyways it;s been about 2 weeks and i have white mycelium growing in my bag but there is also a greenish light mold visible on almost all parts where there is not white, about 75% of the bag. i assume this means it is contaminated but am not sure if it means i should totally scrap the bag or keep going as though it's not contaminated or what.
i am very interested in trying to make this work and if i should scrap it then should i order grain based bags next time? and is there a place where the syringe comes with the needle already on?
i know you regulars must get tired of newbies like me always messing things us and asking for help so THANK YOU for any info you can give me!!! also here is a link to the most far out artist you may not know about in return: http://www.laffoley.com/

If its green its bad. RR once told me that some mold carry toxins throughout the Mycelium and if its on one side, the other side might not be safe. and its best to start over. As for Rye or Manure, I don't know its all on the type your growing, I haven't bought from a vendor here, though I know SporBank.com sells spore syringed with needles on them already (if I get in trouble for citing a non vendor I'm sorry, only place I buy from) Remember to try and be a sterile as possible, and theres a green contam out there thats EVIL! In my opinion, try again, don't gamble with the contam. Good luck.

Don't quote me on this, but I think Rye Bag would work better. I would get more opinions before spending more money. I can say that I bought PF Classic and Treasure Coast, and they both are great (little slow to colonize) but they are my Favs, just try a few and find one you like. Happy Growing

Correct. inoculate grains and use them (when fully colonized) to spawn to the bulk substrates. Or you can fruit from straight rye.

You mean the syringe came in its wrapper, with a blue tip on it, and the needle was sealed separately to ensure sterility of the needle & syringe? I dunno what the chances of contam are from screwing on the needle, especially if you do it quickly and clean (gloves, glove box etc)

You bag may have been contaminated from the start it seems, if the greenish growth is not near the inoculation point but I can't really say I am not all knowing. If there is a clearly defined boundary between the white and uncolonized parts, you have a contam and may as well toss it, and order your bags from shroomery sponsors only, trustworthy, good quality and guarantees.

He got the bag off ebay. I'm not sure if the bag could have been the problem upon closer inspeciton of the recepie, but it is still possible.

ok abort bag order heeded i am going to order a bag from the mad season instead.
and as a note, only the needles were sealed, the syringe part was just put in a plastic bag so not necessarily sterile.
i am going to try sporebank this time, especially with their '2 for 1" deal they have going on right now!
thanks for your help

Stick to shroomery sponsors. Don't order off ebay, and especially DON'T order from sporebank. This is the largest mushroom site, and the most reputable suppliers are established vendors here. Most of the rest either don't qualify to be shroomery sponsors, or have been booted off.
Order your spores from our vendors, and get some horse manure from one of our vendors or a local source and pasteurize, NOT sterilize it for best results.
The way your syringe came is the proper way to ship. It should have had a plug in the end, and the needle in a separate sealed pouch. You were supposed to remove the plug and attach the needle in a glovebox while wearing alcohol washed latex gloves. Afterward, flame sterilize the needle until red hot, and then use. RR

I'm new as well, and though I placed 2 orders before finding this forum, one order arrived at about the one week mark and I just got shipping notification on the second order at the 10 day mark. Is this normal? Is there a list of "approved" sponsors somewhere? I have looked but I only found a sponsor forum

click on the main page link on the top right corner. then Community, then on the HOME tab, you'll see a drop down that has sponsors, there you go.
