Can anyone help me with plastic lids?

Okay i bought some of those ball plastic lids... i went ahead and made 1 hole in each jar... i then added aquarium silicone to make a self healing innoc port(i used the silicone on the top and underside of the lid and put a pretty good amount... well, i let them sit and cure for a week now.. i also, bought some micropore tape and am ready to go but before i rush into it i wanna know am i good to go?
1. i am not sure if the aquarium silicone will work or do i need to use different stuff? 2. do i need the rubber gasket or need to add any tyvek or coffee disks? 3. can i just use them as i made them and put aluminum foil over the lids when i pc them? 4. if no to all three q's please explain... i dont wanna mess up.. thanks

hrm... wouldnt the silicone seal the lid all the way during pcing? which last i knew was bad. you want pressure to be able to escape the jar.. hence the putting metal lids on upside down or the tyvek filters..
id rip the silicone out get tyvek from the post office for free and just cover the hole with your tape after you inoculate..

1. i am not sure if the aquarium silicone will work or do i need to use different stuff?
The aquarium silicone will likely not survive pressure cooking temps or will simply lose its adhesion and fall off. I would recommend placing micropore tape over the hole you intend to inoculate with and add the silicone after you're done pressure cooking. The hole will be protected and you can always add the port later. The silicone will be placed right on top of the tape.
The aquarium silicone should work though, just not sure on the heat tolerance.
2. do i need the rubber gasket or need to add any tyvek or coffee disks?
No, the micropore tape will do the job it needs to for gas exchange.
3. can i just use them as i made them and put aluminum foil over the lids when i pc them?
Yes, with the exception of the injection port. I recommend adding this after you PC. Just put the tape over both holes, cover with foil, pressure cook, allow to cool, add your injection port with silicone, wait 12-14 hours to cure, inoculate.
4. if no to all three q's please explain... i dont wanna mess up.. thanks
