Purple People Cult
    #7097300 - 06/27/07 12:11 AM (16 years, 7 months ago)

I know someone who's brother was driving past a gated community with the houses and cars all painted purple. He parked, and got closer, and saw the people were wearing purple too. Then he was asked to walk away by some of the purple people.

It's from this cult "The Purple People"

http://www.thepurplepeople.org/

This is the leader.

How many people here know someone's who's been raised in a cult/ commune?

just meg griffin in:

Chitty Chitty Death Bang

"Peter allows Meg to go to a party with her new friend. This angers Lois because its the same day as Stewie's birthday, and she wants the whole family to be together. What Meg doesn't know is that she's actually attending a cult meeting. Peter then comes to pick up Meg. However, the Cult Leader follows. Stewie believes him to be the "Man in White", trying to return him to the womb."

i don't know anyone who's been in a cult or anything like that.

it seems really fucking strange to be that people are actually stupid enough to join cults.

I wish people could live the communal/ natural lifestyles they want without forcing boundaries and rules and standards to it. Organized religion can ruin wonderful ideas. Wearing all purple - having purple houses and cars is ridiculous but I'm sure they do positive things as well.

What gets me the most though, is how isolated and self-involved people have become as a society that these cults (sometimes very abusive) are going on ALL over the U.S and hardly anyone knows the difference.

oh i'm not denying that cults can promote good things. obviously peace on earth is a good thing, but simply because a cult says "peace on earth and goodwill to mankind", it does not make up for the fact that they're following some random guy who is telling them that the master race K'ackathal of the 5th moon of Xanthrapussyeatathon is coming to take away the chosen... following with a dangerous conviction, at that.

the self-interest and isolation of individuals in society isn't exactly something that people are just now adopting. people, in general, have always been serving self interest and fending for themselves. not saying that people can't do things for the social good, just the serving self-interests is nothing new.
