Iowa Farmers Look to Ron Paul to Legalize Hemp Production
Posted June 21st, 2007 by antiwar in Ron Paul

“Plans are afoot for a great expansion of the hemp industry.” So proclaimed the Department of Agriculture in its rousing 1942 movie, “Hemp for Victory”, which urged farmers to rally to the cause.

"American farmers would love to grow hemp," proclaims The Economist. "North Dakota, which in 1999 became the first state to allow industrial hemp farming, has taken the lead. This week two farmers from Iowa filed a lawsuit to force the DEA to issue permits to grow hemp; the farmers had applied for permits back in February, thus far to no avail. Ron Paul, a Texas congressman and presidential candidate, could win over farmers in Iowa because of his pro-hemp lobbying. In February he introduced a bill in Congress that would allow Americans to grow it."

This can help him in lot in that state as well.

In my dealings with zap I have routinely experienced unprovoked hostility coupled with an astonishing rudeness and childishness that is downright weak and unworthy of a mature human being.

He is immune to reason and regularly substitutes rhetoric for facts.

Having said that, I feel he should not be banned.

i've had the same experiences with him. however i think his ban is long overdue. he indirectly flames people all the time and never seems to have to pay any price for it. sure, he won't say something like "you are stupid" instead he tip toes around the rules and usually says something along the lines of "anyone who believes (your point of view here) is stupid". it's still a flame directed someone, or maybe even a few people. sure it's easy enough to filter out, but i just don't understand why he is able to get away with it while others get called out for it. suess warned someone in this very thread for doing the very same sort of thing as a matter of fact.

it seems like just because he is outspoken and serves a counter balance roll to the mostly liberal leaning forum, that he gets to break all to rules and be an asshole to everyone that disagrees with him. i think he should be held to the same standards as everyone else.

i won't get into his ridiculous and overbearing debate style, but personally i think discussions will be more interesting and civil without him, so i don't really care that ythan basically banned him for nothing. like i said, it was overdue for all the flaming he's dished out and never been punished for.

I don't think I've ever seen a political discussion that was very "civil".

Let's get this thread back on topic, folks.

As it happens, Ythan has reversed the permaban, but even if he hadn't this isn't the venue in which to discuss the pros and cons of specific bans.

Awesome, Iowa would be a great state for cultivating hemp, as well. I was out touring through a corn field down there a couple of weekends ago, and corn is great, but its certainly not a good crop for ethanol (the grain elevator lobbies certainly latched onto the notion, however). That would have been so much cooler to be walking through a field of hemp.
