What is PC-able?
    #7087188 - 06/24/07 01:15 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

I was wondering what exactly can go into the PC and survive? Basically, I need to sterilize/pasteurize some manure/casing mix, and ordering autoclavable bags online is kind of expensive - for a $5 dollar order, it's a $12 dollar shipping fee. Anyways, I was just wondering if there's any other kind of container I can put them in, and where would that container be, shop-wise? Thanks.

HEres one with straw and just using a pillow case...also you can substatute your poo in for the straw in this pictorial, it does the same thing. And you can use you PC, you just have to figure out what setting on your stove gets you between 160-180

I forget what it's called, but if it has a 5 inside a recycling sign then you are good.

IDK...but just pasturize the bulk substrate using the pillow case method and 'pasturize',(dont sterilize casing or bulk) the casing in the oven:thumbup::wink:

i believe you can get them at many grocery stores, alot of people like to cook turkeys in them around thanksgiving time, if my memory is any good its a blue box with a turkey on the front and it should have three bags in it.

oh ok i just checked google.. i was close. 2 bags and it looks like this

according to http://www.earthodyssey.com/symbols.html "polypropylene" or "recycle symbol with 5 in it" has a high resistance to heat so it has a high melting point.

#5 aka polypropylene, is the only common PCable plastic in use. I suggest just going to the recycling center and seeing what #5 plastics you can snag.
