A sleep
    #7082368 - 06/23/07 03:38 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

At first we didn't know what to call the condition of asleep.

We said

He's...... a.........

He's a...................

He's a.......... sleep.
He is a sleep.

A followed by sleep

it is bulky if you think about it, not a smooth word, but this is how all words are formed.

so they said a-sleep
asleep
a-sleep
asleep and then

because I am not a sleep I realized this. But then words can get so smooth, where you take abstractions and play Dr Seuss and all the things your jazz mind creates from the other hemisphere is very very fluid a fusion and melting and smoodging of all these words. It is very interesting to use bulkiness (word, symbol) to create smoothness.

At first someone did a silly act or a 'tard'. Then he performed the same act again and hence we got a ------.

I think the "a" has a purpose when used like that in the english language.

drifting ashore
split asunder
screamed aloud

so you say well he is A sleep ? and its rough but then people smooth it out with evolution.

i don't get what coming around the mountain has to do with a sleep

i mean look its like

you have the word sleep

and you have the word a

but you don't have a way of dsecribing the process of sleep so you say

well, he is a.....
like you're trying to give a noun to it
like he is a loiterer
he is a lazyhead
but you don't know
so you just say ahhh no need to make a word for it, we'll just say
he is a sleep

so then it becomes asleep.

but i guess she can come round the mountain. that is a funky tripped out graphic that makes me laugh.

ohhh

acomin yeah i get it.

there are plenty, but it's not about this word at all, just the process of bulky becoming smooth.

What about "she is sleeping"? Isn't that the same as "she is asleep".

I think the word sleep came to be like most other English words. It was probably taken from an older language and then used in conjunction with suffixes or prefixes to fit the context of the sentence. English is a quirky language (probably because of it's evolution over a widespread area), and sometimes there seems to be a senseless or conflicting order to it.

I'm no languologist tho  Just speculating.
