yes overlay will fruit, you will just get an uneven pin set and possibly less fruit.
Ill tell you though I use coir and no matter what I do it always overlays. Everythings been fine so far. What you can do after first flush is lightly scratch the surface and re case the top layer. This will help for a better second flush.
I still have not found a way for Coir not to overlay... every casing ive done the surface layer always is covered. From 2 casings over 2 flushes I harvested like 28 grams or more dry so I figure since the casings were small and only 2 flushes thats pretty darn good.
who knows

well it hasent for me.. usually it takes 3-5 days to colonize casing then another 3-7 days to see pins and then another 3 -7 days to see fruit... thats the way things have been working for me
this is the overlay I get
 still fruits well though

yes for some reason the mycelium turns grey and even tan from the coir.... its weird...
I got pins about a day or 2 after that pic
the Pins are fat and big...... all my casings are like this I never have been able to get one not to colonize the top layer.... As long as its even coverage I guess its okay from what everyone has told me.... You want an even colonization from what ive heard
