Anyone else get into opiates because of stays in the hospital?

Every single friend of mine who cops heroin started with painkillers, and most of those were legitimately prescribed for a work-related injury.

Some of them are contractors, and I know of two who work together who snort at least two (2) OC 80s each, every day!!

I guess I'm lucky - opiates make me nauseous. Thanks God for that - it was hard enough for me to quit the booze, so an opiate addiction would have been pure hell to me.

partaking twice a week is enough to maintain an extended period of having a physiologically significant ammount of the substance present.

"dopesickness" or the nausuea, itch, and discomfort for the first few days is not withdraw. withdraw usually comes after the "dopesickness" has passed. something like 1-3 days after.

think of feeling tense and cold. chattering teeth, shivers, like the flu. you will FEEL like you have a fever, but wont have any significant temperature. this is a pretty good description of an extremely mild withdraw. Still, since it occurs so long after the effects and hangover subsides, you might think you've got a flu.

lots of people call in sick for work or go to hospitals not even REALIZING they are in opiate withdraw.

its not usually until a few intensified bouts of withdraw in dry periods that they start to realize they are suffering from chemical dependancy.

often, at this point, the withdraw is IMMENCE, like the whole world is ringing against their brain with a mallet in a freezing carnival ride of pain. a little dose fixes it.

starts it over.

depening on how long youve been doing this, just be ready to stick to your guns. it CAN get worss.
