How far will a .22 or .25 pistol sound in the woods at night?

I feel like relieveing some stress, but all the woods around here are considered 'government property'. But we know some trails that go a good 4 or 5 miles deep into thick woods. If we go out there at night and bust some rounds, is there a chance the cops or game warden could hear it?

No, it's legal, cops will just pat you on the back for exercising your American right to shoot guns wherever you please.

im sure you would be fine as long as you are deep in the woods.
you should go to a shooting range.

Depends, are you shooting .22 short or .22 mag? Mag will be pretty fucking loud. If you really want something to shoot around in your yard or something get a p22 with a suppressor and shoot 22 short.

Its just a regular .22 LR, and silencers/supressors are very illegal. What if we're drunk when we get caught?

Suppressors aren't illegal. You just need a license. Why do you think that some guns come threaded?

Well, find a shooting range. The best ones to go to are the ones run by parks and such. If nobody else is there you can fuck around and put up some silhouettes and rush them with your ak-47 or dual pistols. Good fun.

The only shooting range we have around here is an indoor shooting range, and they pretty much only allow pistols. Rifles and shotguns cost a buck a round to shoot, and you can only shoot at fucking paper. I enjoy shooting bottles and washing machines or refrigerators that people dump out in the woods.

There has to be a big national forest around you that allows shooting. I know there quite a few near me in Georgia.

Around here it's legal to shoot 1 mile away from a resedential area, my buddy shoots his AR-15 almost every weekend and I can hear it from my house when I'm not out with him. I can't believe the amount of money he spends in ammo for "practice". As far as a .22 shit you prolly couldn't hear that more than a quarter mile in dense woods in the middle of the night.

A .22lr won't carry sound too far. It's a very low powder load coupled with about a 30-40grain bullet travelling a little over 1000fps.
I use a .17HMR for plinking, which is pretty much a .22 magnum casing necked down to .17 with a 17-20grain bullet that travels about 2500-2800fps. The sonic crack is about the only audiable noise from a distance and it's so light that it doesnt carry very far at all.
I ran through 100 rounds of Hornady V-max .17HMR about 100ft from my aunts house, just over a slight hill and no one could hear it and it has a MUCH louder crack than a .22lr.

Any lower velocity .22 load would be hard to hear from more than a half a mile.
I love TN. I literally shoot off my back porch. We've only had the police called out once, about 10 years back my dad handed out guns to myself and several of my freinds (I could see that introduction going a lot more interesting places than it actually will), something like an assorted 15 pistols, shotguns and rifles divided amongst 11 people ages 12-41. We then made a pile of soda cans. We wanted to reenact the opening scene from Young Guns (1 or 2, can't remember) and by god did we blow the shit out of the pile of cans. Apparently, one of out neighbors called the police because they were afraid that a serious gun battle had broken out at our house. The responding officer, upon acertaining the situation, giggled like a school girl and unloaded a magazine from his Glock in the next round.

lol funny thing is yes you need a license to have a silencer.... but there are civilian legal suprresors but they have to do a background check on you just as if you were buying a gun.
also guns do come threaded but you'll notice that the civilian versions of guns never come threaded . Government and law enforcement guns are the only ones you will see come with the option of a theaded barrel.

First of all, there is no such thing as a "silencer". Fucking Hollywood and their catch phrases.
Second, you don't need a license to posses or use a suppressor. All you need to do is purchase a BATF tax stamp @ $200 per suppressor, send them an application with your fingerprints and that's it. Currently suppressors are legal to own privately in 35 states and I believe between 3 and 5 others allow FFL firearm distributors to posses them.
About the threaded barrel... It doesn't matter one bit if it's a "civilian" or "Law Enforcement" firearm. I've seen, fired and bought rifles/handguns with threaded barrels and I'm a civilian. It's not an "option", but more an after market threaded barrel or a gunsmith modified barrel.

go to any manufacturer, models prethreaded are law enforcement models.
I never did say though that civilians couldn't or buy these models.
also silencer is a bad term but you get the point (silencer , supressor) .
And a "license: i required. hence if your a dealer you have that license. I don't care whatever title of name it has it IS a license. Anything in which is issued to you or under a company name which is in use or sevice, use , buying, or selling on multiple items is considered a license.
Also you can get aftermarket barrels threaded or have it done at a gunsmith. But even still note all sold guns with pre threaded barrels are law enforcement and government models. <------ what does this mean?
it's a model that was designed specifically for applications used by law enforcement and government agencies. These can always be purchased by civilians as long as it still follow atf's guidelines .

Drinking and hunting is a long-honored American pastime. Alabama (and probably many other states) has repeatedly voted down bills to ban it.
Absolutely retarded, but I don't live there.
