Fruiting in the jar
    #705601 - 06/27/02 12:33 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Okay people... my last post was about the jars taking a while to fully colonize. Now when I checked on them today a few of the Lippa Yai's are fruiting in the jar. I suppose its time to birth these? yes no? is there enough mycellium to fight contams outside the jar? BTW the jars are about 80% covered. Has this happened to anyone? much respect to you all and thanks.

You should have kept the jars dark until they were fully colonized avoiding the risk of non-colonized substrate getting 'infected' . If they are fruiting I'd birth them and cut out the un-colonized portion and fill it with verm. or something similar to that.

you could just let them be,
they'll still grow fine invitro as the cake finishes colonizing.
then once it's fully colonized,
birth and pick the invitro harvest,
dunk and place in terrarium for additional flushes.

Ya with 80% (obviously someone ..*me* didnt see 80% colonized part) you could just let them grow invitro until it colonizes like hippie said. I actually like invitro (I dont use it as a main system..ive done it once) but its kinda crazy when they grow invitro..lolz. Lemme know how the Lipa-Yai's are.

You could also remove the uncolonized portion then crumble and case they should be fine.

thank you all for your suggestions... I went ahead and birthed two of them. I guess I'll take the other 21 jars and put them in a dark closet. I assume the reason they started to pin is the indirect light (though very little) in thier room.

(This patience thing is all new to me.)

don't pay any attention to jerks who want to laugh at you or your work.
there's not a damn thing wrong with 21 jars,
and your idea about returning them to darkness is sound,
but may well be too late.
but they'll pin and grow just fine in the jars until they are ready to birth at full colonization.

Thank you Hippie... Jah's Peace... I birthed four jars yesterday. Already a few of them are friuting at a pretty rapid rate. That was fast. I innoculated on June 1st. Is this maybe just the strain...? The Pink Buffalo's don't seem to be covering as fast. Anyway thank you all for the info. Peace

that's not unusually fast in my experience.
it's actually fairly typical for cakes to start fruiting somewhere between 20 and 28 days from inoculation.
