The jig was almost up...

So Ive been keeping a Close eye on my Experiments With Subbalteatus and panaeolopsis on cakes, in LC's and Grain spawns. The Subbs have been doing well and are almost colonized about 70% id say on my verm/brf cakes.
Well I woke up Thursday to see one of the jars was becoming contaminated. I only have 2 of my 3 cakes (The failed one is in the garden growing nicely actually!)so i really didn't want to have another contam'd. It had a dark brown mold growing on the side of one of the jars due to poor sterilization.
People always say, "throw it away immediately" but, I HAD TO SAVE THE CAKE!
I performed a procedure I thought would work by taking a sterile exacto knife and cutting the contam out of the cake, applying a tiny bit of Peroxide with a syringe to the remaining area around it and filling the missing wedge with Dry Vermiculite.
I was afraid this would not help but its been since thursday and its now saturday and the contam hasnt returned and the cake is still colonizing steadily.
HAS ANYONE EVER DONE THIS SUCCESFULLY OTHER THAN ME???
Funny thing is... This isn't why the jig was almost up...
MY PARENTS found my setup in my closet and asked me what experiment I was cooking up this time. They know I'm interested in mycology and have caught me picking shrooms off of our lawn and looking at them.
I told them I took the same mushrooms I found on my lawn (which is panaeolus Subbalteatus) and am trying to grow them naturally in jars using methods from the internet.
My parents were worried about me burning the house down because I had a light bulb in a shot glass heating the whole mess inside of a cabinet.
THEY TOLD ME TO GET AN AQUARIUM AND DO IT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY ROOM PROPERLY!!! They offered to pay for the supplies even. They think its a healthy scientific hobby.
Free at last feels good. No more hiding, No more secretive growing. I do it when I want!

This is how the conversation went with my mom:
"So, I'm growing some drugs at my freinds house."
"Why aren't you just doing it in your closet at home?"
"I figured you'd be pissed."
"Nah."
Now I just gotta move my set up a few miles.
