So we made another run out to the field tonight, and along with what appear to be more of the active copes, we came across 8 or so of these, each within several feet of each other.

Habitat: Wooded cow pasture, growing out from under leaves near cow dung.
Gills: White gills, attached.
Stem: White, 2-3 inches, brittle, hollow.
Cap: Dark tan to brown, slightly ridged around edges, smooth in center, ~1 inch diameter.
Spore print color: Waiting for results
Bruising: Some blue bruising on stems observed, caps darkening.
Location: Picked in Central Florida, east coast.

That bruising is not blue, it;s more like dark olive. Very highly doubtful that they are anything active, more likely toxic to you. With that said I haven't a clue as to what they are, just that they aren't what you were looking for(if hunting for actives[mentioned hunting copes.])

Those are Amanitas, probably Death Caps.
If you think those bruise blue, you might want to find another sport.

those are definately Amanitas.
i doubt they are A. phalloides due to the appearance of the volval structure. it dosen't look cup, sack or sheathlike to me, though icertainly can't tell with any confidence from that image resolution.
to the orrigional poster: when collecting white gilled mushrooms with white spore prints; always be careful to dig them up with the base of the stipe intact and be sure to describe it in detail. this feature is important in placing the specimens within the genus.
there are verry few Amanitas with which the mushroom hunter should experiment, and none which a novice should. it is a dangerous genus containing many deadly species, dozens of unknown edibility and many which may make you wish you died.
if you mistake that bruising reaction for blue, you need to do much research into what the Psilocybian blueing reaction looks like and into the other bruising reactions exhibited by other mushrooms. it may be that you saw blue out of hopefullness, and it may also be possible that you don't differentiate collors appropriately [some degree of color blindness].
--------------------
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
