    #705197 - 06/27/02 09:37 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

It has been raining quite much and I heard people have found semilanceata already so I went into field nearby and walked around for 30mins or so and found these and bunch of lookalikes that I dumbed.. erowid has pics of p.semilanceata that look exactly like these and some pics that look quite different so I thought I might ask here too

so, what do you think?

I didn?t pay that much attention, for some reason I always had the idea that liberty caps don?t bruise that blue for some reason, check the pic and you see they did bruise from the stem and the stems were pretty dirty already when I picked them so its kinda hard to tell

oh and the pic was taken few hours after picking them up, when they were on field the color on caps was quite different and it was slimy on top, stems were less skinny too

Yeah... Libs don't always briuse blue. Take a spore print and see if it comes out brown-purple looking(I think thats the color of a lib print). If it comes out black, then you have some type of Panaeolus.

it has the incurved margin on the cap that is common in libs. But it is still hard to tell, for me.

I think they're are not Ps. Semilanceata because they'll be off-season, it also depends where you live, climate, temperature, etc.

I live in cold climate.. they are not common at this time of year in here but it?s been raining alot lately
Actually there?s only one other shroom besides p.semilanceata in my area that looks like the ones in the pic, it?s either one active panaeolus kind or semilanceata, panaeolus is less potent but Im happy either way, gonna go pick some more soon and combine them with my homegrown cubensis

I disagree - plenty of experience with that species tells me that the pic could well be P.Sem. People always expect the nipple on top but it isnt always there; I would say that the way they are drying and the appearance of the veil margin is a dead giveaway.
