Tool feature length movie being discussed
    #7049460 - 06/15/07 12:54 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

I heard about this idea that Tool wants to make a feature length surrealistic movie (reminiscent of The Wall) years ago (like 2000-2001) and now they're talking about it again. I hope they do it; we can all imagine what they'd come up with.

They certainly are incredibly slow at releasing albums :frown:

I'll keep my ears peeled and report any new info I find.

i would rather have them release albums slowly if it means getting things done right and in the way that they see fit.

i wouldn't want them to rush the process and put out a crappy album/movie.

Alright...I've been a Tool fan since I was very young. They were the first real band I ever listened to and they have been the soundtrack, essentially, to every part of my life since.

I don't know how good a full length film would be. The music videos are cool beyond belief but something that lasts two hours is bound to have a sort of plot and some kind of dialogue or it will get boring. But Tool isn't really a "plot and dialogue" kind of band.

Plus, as nearly anyone who has been to enough shows to compare concerts of the Aenima or Lateralus tours to the current one can attest to, the band just isn't putting out the same kind of energy as they used to. They don't seem to connect to the crowd nearly as much as they used to, and the passion seems to be missing from the music. Tool is slowing down.

...then again I really pumped myself up over the course of six years for another album that had a "theme" similar to that of Lateralus and got 10,000 Days (not that it is not an incredible piece of art, just not what I had hoped for).

I'm interested to see what they come up with, but I have to say I liked where they were musically ten or twelve years ago compared to now. But it's all good... nothing they do is crap.

i can see where you are coming from. just always realize tool aren't doing it for "you", they are doing it for themselves. they are selfish when it comes to conveying their ideas, and that is what makes them good.

the fact that it's tool and they probably won't have a plot/storyline etc, for a movie, doesn't automatically discount it as boring. Hell, half the fun in anything is using your imagination and creating your own storyline/theme/whatever.

cheers

I would agree with your assessment on 10,000 days if it weren't for Wings for Marie and the title track.

My favorite tool albums go something like this:
Aenemia
10,000 Days
Undertow
Lateralus
Opiate
Salival

Plot or no plot, Tool are artists. They are very able to make a film of worth. I'd imagine it would be vague and open to interpretation, especially judging from the choice adjective "surreal," and of course their videos. I'm sure I would enjoy something like this. It sounds like a great idea.
That being said, I doubt this film will ever be 'filmed'. I'll cross my fingers though.

Ohh this would be amazing! I have no doubt that they would come up with something good. I wonder if it would resemble any of their previous videos. Would be quite awesome to see Alex Grey collaborate with them on this..

Im sure if the project gets underway, it would take awhile but like a previous poster mentioned, one of the many reasons Tool is such a brilliant band is because of their patience with taking their time with their art, rather then sticking to some formula that allows for some quick marketable cookiecutter piece of 'music' that litters much mainstream music today.

I hope this happens!
