Green mold is going to be trichoderma. Not going to kill you. Probably won't make you sick to the stomach, either, but it could. Do you really want to have to worry about whether your shrooms are tainted while you're tripping? Because that seems like a formula for a bad trip, to me. You've got five quarts, why not just knock up some more while you're fruiting them? It's not like it takes that long for grain to colonize.

From what I've read, trich has been used to protect plants from fungal pathogens, and some kinds--presumably the kinds we tend to see, love to attack our precious fungi perfecti (T. aggresivum?). I don't think there's a species of trich that produces any serious quantity of toxins, but as Geordi says, "Don't take my word for it!"

EDIT: USDA lists T. harzianum (the species commonly used as a fungicide in plants) as having an "acute poisoning" rating of "slight". If you weigh 180lbs (80kg), eating 210 dry grams of it at once would have a 50% chance of killing you (if your physiology holds up as well as a rat's, by body weight). Note that doesn't mean 200g of mushrooms that may be tainted with it--it means 200 pure grams of trich. So, you'd really have to be scarfing the nasty green stuff down to get seriously sick. Again, though, do you want to take that chance?

Just make sure you're not getting mold on the surface of your grow or on your fruiting bodies themselves, if you do. And remember that trich is a huge, tricky bastard, so don't let it spooge all over your grow area.

The bad idea was keeping that contaminant around. By now it has produced billions of spores that may affect your future cultivation attempts.

Not if it's in the jar...

But yeah, if it's spreading its spores in the open air, it's going to be a problem. He didn't make it clear whether it was in the same fruiting chamber, or what--I'd take it to fruit in the bathroom, to be honest. Already filthy in there.

Contaminated jars should immediately be tossed out, or buried in the garden. If they flush there, fine. Never keep contaminated jars in your house for a few silly mushrooms that might or might not appear. It isn't worth trashing out your house with a few trillion trich spores. Your exact question has been answered hundreds of times. The search engine here can help avoid repetitive posts. Thanks.
