You have no future in lies and deceit, give it up, tell her, ask for her help anything but lies.

I was alcoholic for 10 years, the first drink I had I knew was trouble, I got goose bumps, my hair stood up and I felt in love. It was all fun and games for years but slowly it rose to something large and destructive and sought a great escape from life itself.

My story gets spiritual and I don't wish share it where my words will be trampled by fools. I don't know if I can help or not but I know, after one day I'll never forget, the desire for drink was washed away from me.

Start doing AA or something similar, and then tell her about it and explain that you are working on it.

Does it effect your life negatively?

Do you find you spend your money on booze before bills?

Do you find the drink comes before hanging out with your woman?

Is it effecting your health?

Do you TRULY not want to drink anymore and what are the reasons if you don't mind me asking?

How did you do it? Man, I've tried everything. AA, sponsors, friends, parents, ex-wife.

She's not going to help you through it. Even if she wanted to, she can't. Only you can. Sorry to sound like a preacher, but it's just the way it works.

I don't know if I can. Very hard to talk to this lady when she's so against alcohol. I know it's pretty much impossible to quit yourself...but...maybe?

In response...

Yes it does.

No, I spend Nil on alcohol.  I never missed work and make good money.

I would never drink before hanging out with my woman.  Drinking in her presence..well...

Liver problems :frown:

I do want to drink but the effects are nothing like they used to be.  Now they are just wasted space of blackouts.

So it's effecting your life negatively soley because of health?

Your liver to be exact?

I'm a drinker myself. I have around a 6 pack every night or a bottle of wine or two.

Drinking isn't a horrible thing you have to quit. But you want to make it a weekend thing, not a hobby. Couple words of advice for ya.

1. Don't go to bed drunk. This is the easiest and the hardest habit to kick, especially if that's how you sleep every night. Drink earlier or wait your buzz away.

2. Do not eat large amounts after you drink. Eventually you'll stop eating unless your drunk, never a good thing.

3. Try drinking less. Sounds basic, but drinking everyday isn't bad. As long as you don't have anymore than 3 beers, 2 glasses of wine, and liquor holds no health benefits.

Chill out dude, how long have you been drinking? Why do you want to quit? And never change for a girl, if she leaves, then the thing that you quit, will come back hard. I know

Not enjoying the drunk and liver problems is probably the best reasons to quit

If you've done all of the things to quit you say you have, then you aren't really ready to quit drinking yet.

It hasn't cost you enough yet.

It hasn't destroyed your life enough yet.

It hasn't hurt you enough yet.

You still enjoy it more than you hate it.

You still justify the problems with the pleasures.

When the scales tip, and you feel the breath of death and catastrophe-- the over-used term is "hit bottom" -- then you will be serious about it.

You still aren't feeling like you have enough to lose to quit, or you would quit. If/when you do, it will be the hardest, ugliest time of your life, the best time of it, or, most likely, both...

Excellent post. And an over used term "hit bottom" truly is. We always have farther down to go and things could always be a lot worse, it's just that people often specialize in taking things for granted.

People rarely realize the power they have to cut anything out of their life, just like that. If you find you are unable to,

I'm a drunk.  Why not give yourself a little life experiment and get sober for a bit.  See how it treats you.  And you'll most likely need a stand-in for booze.  Sitting around doing jack shit isn't the best way to keep you occupied.

How many here are actual alcoholics?  Tried to quit but can't?  I'm trying my best and met this great woman who says her father died from alcoholism.  Should I lie and try to quit cold turkey or just admit the truth and see if she helps me through it?  She has no idea that I drink. Tough decision.  She and I have a possible future.

Willpower. Nothing but. I'm sure that, stuck in such a pattern, saying that sounds like a joke, but you have to step outside of your routine and your usual way of thinking and realize what it objectively is - a choice you are making right now, to either drink right now or to not drink right now.

You are either drinking or you aren't. No matter what your mind tells you, no matter how your body feels, simply do not reach for it. Do not put it in your hands, do not pour it in your mouth.

Difficult? I'm sure it is. There is a lot riding on your decision right now. It might be a difficult decision to make, but I think you realize you will have to make it sooner or later, despite the temporary consequences you will face from not feeding your addiction.

Step outside your mind and say "Its as simple as not drinking". Pinpoint the act and realize that, if you do not engage in it, then you have seized the opportunity to better yourself.

Women love it when you ask them for help

don't ever ever lie if you have something going for this lady. And if you don't want to lie...then don't bring something up to twist it around.
