 Lighter explosion

Holy fuck. Im sitting here smoking up and eating. I set down my lighter, in about a minute i hear hissing coming from the table. wtf? I look over. My lighter blows up. The top like blows off and it catches on fire with the lighter fluid still feeding it, it falls on the floor. I look around for water and see none in my room, so i hit it with my trashcan. It flies off from my hard plastic chairmat and onto the carpet, i try to move it with my hand burning it slightly. It finally goes out.
Fuck. No one should have to experience that in the middle of a session. 
At least i have another lighter to finish up with 
Reason this must have happened is cause the metal part of the Bic broke off a long time ago, and every time i used it it would sometimes melt some of the plastic.
lol man. Anyone else have a lighter blow up?

Yeah, I saw one start to do that in someone's hand - they freaked and threw it up in the air and it blew in mid-air. It was awesome.

Yes I saw it happen in high school...this kid had a cheap ass lighter, the one you can pop open and make a crack torch with -- and he jacked it wayyy up, and the butane all came out in one swift burst
it was a huge fireball, and scared the shit out of the kid  He went all Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off for a solid half hour

i heard it happens if you throw it at a wall really hard. anyone make fireballs in their hand by holding the button for a long time then lighting it?

i like to tape down the gas on a lit bic.
in about 5 minutes the metal top melts into the plastic and BOOM.
