This gets asked and answered in depth at least twice per week. Have you tried reading the forums?

umm dude they produce the same mushrooms...your question is waay to general...if you do horse poo and case it obviously your bound to get more shrooms...but if you have a thousand cakes you'll probably get the same yields...like RR said use tha search

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/search.php

the answer to this question, has way to many variables,

whats the substrate?
whats the method?
who's trying to do it? a vet, or a noob?
etc... times ten thousand.

"search posts" is the most awesome link in the nav bar.
just type in "Cakes vs. Casings", now that you know how to do it, it will no longer be a problem with knowledge, not using the search function in the future, will be a problem with execution of knowledge, then we'll beat you with a noodle trout stick fish thing.

If the substrate's the same, the yield is the same--it's just extended over a much longer time frame. Barring faulty growing or complications (which are admittedly more common with casings) the bottleneck here is total nutrient content, not the shape, size, color, or sexual orientation of your grow. If you introduce another bottleneck, like moisture, by not properly hydrating your cakes, you may see decreased effectiveness from them.

Casings produce higher initial yields and fewer flushes because they encourage heavy pinsets. Meanwhile, as long as you keep your cakes hydrated with dunking, they're going to produce for a very long time before they stop fruiting, though for the last several weeks of the process you might be picking off two or three scrawny mushrooms per week.

USE THE FUCKING SEARCH. Said this yesterday.

Thank you.
