potency of homegrown vs store-bought pods

i wonder if this would be better off in the ODD forum...? tried my first ever harvested batch of poppies yesterday, and the tea was more potent than any cup i've made from vender-ordered pods. these poppies were grown in pretty crappy conditions also (minimal sunlight). the weirdest thing is i've milked em to death and thought i'd drained all the alkaloids. something to think about. these were also still fairly fresh, and not fully dried out yet, so i wonder if that's a factor. in between nods, i made a theory about why this batch was stronger. could it be that vendors use a less alkaloid rich variety so that customers dont OD? not that they expect their customers to ingest the product or anything...

So many variables could affect the potency. One of the main things to watch out for is that they're given minimal water for the week before harvest. Vendor ordered pods will also vary due to conditions the grower has no control over.

Vendor ordered pods are special-grown strains which contain a low level of alcaloids...

I'd be willing to guess that freshness plays a role.

if someone offered thoroughly dried and fairly fresh pods, what would be the better bet?

First of all, vendors DO NOT sell a special strain that are lower in alkaloids, thats just plain nonsense since they offer a variety of different pods- (Hen and Chicks, giganteum, etc) Always buy the pods that are thoroughly dried unless you want moldy pods. The potency has nothing to do with the grower whether private, commercial, Ebay.. whatever. Potency depends on genetics, growing conditions, how the pods were dried (kiln vs.natural) etc.
