Shroomery Fantasy Football 2007 through Yahoo!
    #7032980 - 06/11/07 10:18 AM (16 years, 9 months ago)

Hey all, and welcome to another season of fantasy fucking football. Can you tell that I'm excited? Well, that has a lot to do with zappa's seemingly insurmountable lead in our baseball league. :bored:

I know a lot of you guys like the NFL.com fantasy football better and if you do, well, you can either suck it or suck it up and join this league too. I believe Banez has plans for a fantasy football league on NFL.com, I hope to be part of that one too but I want to get one started on Yahoo as well. Don't wanna pay for Stat Tracker? Cry me a river.

If you're interested in joining the Yahoo! league (I know it's early, and we don't draft until August, but I just wanted to get it launched) let me know and I will PM you the league address and password.  Past players with a good track record of keeping up with the season receive first dibs on registering over first-timers.

Here is how the scoring will go in this league, which is a head-to-head league. Right now I have it set at 12 teams, I'd be willing to go to sixteen, but I find that kinda dilutes the free agent pool a bit too much for football.

OFFENSE:
Passing Yards (25 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (6)
Interceptions (-2)
Rushing Yards (10 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (10 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-2)

KICKERS:
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (-2)
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards (0)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Point After Attempt Missed (-1)

DEFENSE:
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (3)
Kickoff and Punt Return Touchdowns (6)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (8)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (5)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (3)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

I'm in if you'll allow it. I kinda stopped paying attention last year 'cause I was managing three teams and well, I just lost interest. I'll stick with one and only one this year.

I've never played this game, I'm not really interested in it, but I would direct your attention to the "5 bitches" thread I started. Now, when 5 out of 12 people bail out of a rotisserie scoring league, it's not that big of a deal, but if they pull out of a head to head league, which is what this football thing seems to be, some people could gain an advantage based on when they play somebody else. Before or after they lose interest. Make your own judgments on the feckless people who pledged attention to the baseball league and then bailed. They know who they are and so do the others in that league but not everybody does. People who I would advise strongly against are deadhead, lysergicide and Yarry, total quitters. Probably nice guys but they lack commitment. You are warned.

I got shafted last year :bored:

I don't actually even remember what happened, now that I think of it, but that I was pissed about it.

Once someone flakes on a fantasy league, they should never be allowed back in.

Edit - nevermind.  I was trying to join a fantasy plus league instead of a regular one.  My bad.  I'm in.

Make sure you are joining regular fantasy football, not PLUS. I'm willing to bet that's the problem.

Ya know - they were. And this is a small venue that has 4-5 bands a night. So out of 150 bands in a month, there's like 4 that's good, and yes, they were one of them.

This is a tease.  Now all there is to do is wait.

Football season is the greatest time of year.

You have some serious work to do.

Though I have on occasion enjoyed a rousing game of American footie, both as a fan and as a participant (there are few things more enjoyable than tossing a blocker aside and pancaking a running back) it is nonetheless a pale shade next to the greatest and finest sporting endeavor ever invented. All who believe otherwise are child botherers of the worst stripe. And commie scum.

Enjoy your silly games in the off season children and study up on fantasy baseball. Maybe some one of you will figure it out by next year.

I was definitely in the Robotic Invitational, the other shroomery yahoo league, and the NFL.com league.

Didn't skip on any of them.

I had Drew Brees picked up off waivers in both yahoo leagues, he ran shit.
I came in second or third in one, and like fourth or fifth in the other.

Okay when do you guys want the draft to be?

I am looking at Saturday August 25th in the afternoon. Or Sunday August 26th in the late afternoon since I have another fantasy draft that day at 2 PM.

Fantasy football is so up to luck. Between who you get in the draft and how your players perform on a given week, it doesn't leave much to skill.

bullshit, the draft is the key thing.. its all about finding those players who are going to peak that year, or put up solid numbers again.. i pretty much know where im picking already.

The only thing more important than the draft are the injuries - and no one can predict those.

I definitely have a couple of sleeper picks at RB planned out. One particular guy that moved in the offseason who I think is set for a big year.

Yes yes...like I did with this year's baseball draft I am going to have some depth charts written out and definitely a list of ranked sleeper picks...so after I get to the 8th round or so, if the first one is still sitting around, have to grab him..

I'm gonna have to sit down with some depth charts sometime soon.  The draft is important, but after that it's out of our hands... A couple injuries or bad seasons can erase all that research pretty quickly :frown:

I'm pumped for NFL... no other sport interests me nearly as much.

Sunday during football season is amazing. I wake up at around 11 and have some sunnyside up eggs, bacon and toast and coffee.

Then I smoke a ton of pot, and launch StatTracker in time for the 1 o'clock games, and proceed to watch football alllll day while following my fantasy teams. Deliciously passive.

Fuck yeah, it's so great. I love fantasy football because it's given me reason to care about teams who I normally wouldn't follow.

They come on at noon here...

Yes it's a magical day... we always have two different TVs going, one on each end of the living room.  And I never, ever, ever have to work Sundays. :monkeydance:

It's like 17 Christmas mornings in a row.  Nothing like a fresh batch of NFL games :yesnod:

Nothing is better than waking up on a wonderful fall Saturday morning, having a cup of tea, watching college football all day and falling asleep that night knowing that I'll be doing the same thing with the NFL the next day.

What's better is waking up on Saturday morning knowing you're going to be at one of said college football games. It's pretty awesome, far more awesome than I ever imagined it being.

i wont make excuses, but i will say that my team played subpar in the finals..

i just remember my stud trio of Tomilson, Westbrook, and Rudi Johnson. all of whom should be solid again this year.

and OMR, i agree, the only thing more important than draft is the injuries... and i know we both have our eyes on the same running back.. great minds think alike. but i know atleast 1 other person in the league who does as well.

there are lots of techniques in drafting as well.. i know people who blow their first 3 picks on RB's then sit there all preseason trying to make a deal with someone who needs a solid 2nd back. Things will definetely be interesting this season as long as you stoners keep up with things.

god, this gets me excited for football season.

its not even just to watch, i get a pass to sit in the press booth at high school games.

might not be football though, the guy ive been emailing back and forth didnt mention a specific sport, just that i had experience in scouting. but with football season coming up, i feel optimistic. God i really hope this shit pans out.

i owe my old coach a phone call when i get home

I just checked the Shroomery Gridiron page and it says "Your live online draft is set for Sun Aug 19 3:00pm CDT" (1 hour 45 mintues from now)

I thought it was 2:00 CDT.

*crosses fingers*

By the way guys for our baseball draft on the day of the draft it had it listed as being an hour later than it actually was - so be ready to draft at 3 PM EST, 2 PM CDT, 1 Mountain, 12 pacific. Because I'm pretty sure that's when the draft is!

Canoodia was good albeit brief. It was great seeing Shroomerites...Pittsburgh was a good time too, hung with RandalFlagg, stayed at my buddy's place who I don't get to see too often. Played way too much X-Box 360.

I like my draft. It's better than the last couple years, that's for sure.

QB: Leinart, Delhomme, Jason Campbell
WR: Roy Williams, Laveranues Coles, Matt Jones, Dwayne Jarrett, Drew Bennett
RB: Maroney, Benson, Noah Herron, Dominic Rhodes (goddamnit)
TE: Gates
Def: Pitt
Kicker: Wilkins

If anyone wants anything, let me know.

Overall, I'm happy with my squad. I pre-ranked and was able to jump in after my third pick. I'm not too high on Larry Fitzgerald, who was my third pick, but I got L. Johnson and Carson in the first two. My wide receivers, defense and tight end are subpar. I hope Branch has as good a year as they've been hyping him to have lately. Being an eagles fan, it was hard to pick the SuperBowl MVP. This should be a competitive league, really no dominant teams. I think Twin City looks best on paper, but who the fuck knows what will happen. That's why I love fantasy football.

Best of luck gentlemen

Bollocks, I had no computer for nigh a month.
My team's not terrible.

Wish I had Brees again, though :waits:

Need some advice:

Who would you choose to start - JP Losman (vs Denver) or Joe Kitna (vs Oakland)?

DeShaun Foster (vs St. Louis) or Carnell Williams (vs Seattle)?

Right now I have Kitna and Williams starting.

Deshaun Foster played well in the preseason and he's playing a defense not especially known for run stopping, that I can recall.
Cadillac hasn't done shit since his first year, cuz the bucs sux.

Somehow I'm currently beating Nashbar - don't know if that will last though. Can't believe Moss put up 24 freakin points today - I thought he'd have a good game, but not THAT good.

I'm not too displeased with my team so far. However there are some minor adjustments that I'd like to make with it in the coming weeks. Anyhow, I need Antwaan Randle El to do better than projected or I'm taking a loss this week.

There should be an advertisement for it on the main page of the league right above the box with the team standings.
