Large Terrium idea need feed back
    #702638 - 06/26/02 09:50 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

ok here it goes: basicly i was thinking of using a plastic shelve unit and wraping it in viskeen (clear plastic used by contracters to keep dust in the room their working in, perty tough shit 3mill) and using the cool mist tek to keep the humidity up, perhaps a couple milk jugs with water and fish tank heaters on the bottom shelve for heating if needed, the shelveing unit is like the metal ones u can get at any hardware store, there are 3 shelves mabey a 4th if i need it. i can fit 6 or more bread pan sized casings on each shelve. the shelves are a mesh type shelve so there is plenty of holes for air circulatoin. the cool mist will be vented in from the top via 5/8" plastic tubing, maybe the second tube will be in the middle of the unit.
the viskeen plastic is large enugh to not have many seems probly be able to wrap the whole unit in one peace. a flap of viskeen roles down from the top will be the door to the unit maybe velcro to keep it closed. duck tape for any seam that i may have. the bottem of the unit will not be totaly sealed to let air out, yet rigged so condensation will not make a mess on my floor. may try a lil heat gun action to tighten plastic around the shelve. with out getting holes burnt in the plastic. probly wont need any heat till winter.
what ya think? i have all the materials or can get them free.

Sounds good, a few points:

>and using the cool mist tek to keep the humidity up, perhaps a couple milk jugs

Just use the coolmist on a timer.

>fish tank heaters on the bottom shelve for heating if needed

This won't suffice, try keeping the rom its in at the right temperature.

>what ya think? i have all the materials or can get them free.

Cool, can U make me one?

Good luck

fishtank heaters? definately not out of water, and likely not very effective if in water.. heating the humidifier reservoir is a logical alternative.

Set ups like this are workable, but most people overlook several important details when designing them.

Air circulation is almost as important as air exchange. Air exchange is what is required to provide fresh air and remove co2. Air circulation ensures that there are no pockets of stagnant air (co2 stratification). Contams love stagnant air. Fungi loves moving air. The circulating air also increases the evaporation from the casing surface which is a largely overlooked process controlling the speed of growth and maturation of fruitbodies.

Uh....I said several.....what's the others.......hmm, I'll come back....

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
