excess water on petris
    #702343 - 06/26/02 05:51 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

when there's excess water on your dishes of agar (from condensation) is it normal for it to dry up and leave what looks like a residue? BAH!

Can anyone answer this please? I dont mean to be a chump I know it's only been a day ... I'm assuming it's just the minerals that were in the spring water that are left behind when the excess water evaporated out of the dish.. Only reason I dont think it's bacteria or another mold is because it's not growing past the point of where the water was. Does anyone else get this? ( ANNO , JOSHUA , ROADKILL)??

It is not a problem to have excess water on the top. If the water has dried up though it sounds like you don't have a tight seal on them. Did you tape the lids on? How many peatries did you inoculate?

I don?t have this problem, since I keep my petris at cooler temperatures(room temperature) and never get condensation.

I understand it's not a problem to have excess water on the top but sometimes it gets on the actual agar ... the person wanted the condensation to dry out so it was a happy environment and when it was just right that's when they seal them... It's been done many times before but sometimes when the water dries out it leaves a residue on the agar.. Plus there was excess water from what it was innoculated with (tissue samples that were stored in water) Only 3 petries were innoculated ... this person really didn't even expect the tissue samples to recover they were in storage for over a month but they seem to be recovering nicely... Thanks for your responses.
