i am interested in grof as my next book purchase... i have read that he has written countless books on the connections between hallucinations and the supernatural... can anyone reccomend a good read by him that does just this?
also, has anyone read any of graham hancocks material? he is an archeologist who is at the top of his game. he has a really good intereactive website if anyone is interested.

I have a couple of Grof's books on order, but havent read them yet. He seems to get awesome reviews from reader's over at amazon. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a negative review on his work. He definitely does seem to lean towards the psychedelic > mystical > paranormal hypothesis from what I can tell, so I can't wait to see what he has to say.

u should check out Rudolph Steiner, if u like grof.
http://www.kheper.net/topics/Anthroposophy/Steiner.htm
the guy founded waldorf schools http://www.steinercollege.org/
he talks alot of stuff that relates to dimensions, particularly us and our existance in the 4th dimension. however he writes very complicated and uses words that will have you keeping a dictionary near by if u ever decide to read it through to the end.
very much like grof, in the way i perceived his work.

_The Cosmic Game_ is probably the book you want by Grof if you want to get into the metaphysical side of things. I have read this book and it was okay, although I never am too impressed by reading about speculation and things that can't be directly verified.
I liked _Realms of the Human Unconscious_ and _LSD Psychoterapy_ better but they are mostly about the subconscious and only touch briefly on metaphysics.

The Cosmic Game: Explorations of the Frontiers of Human Consciousness (Suny Series in Transpersonal and Humanistic Psychology) by Stanislav Grof
by the way kid... i checked out those links... doesnt seem to go too much detail about his dimension work... can you reccomend any books?

I won't say that I highly recommend it (which I would say about the other two). But its not like a waste of time to read or anything. If you want a more general overview which also includes quite a bit of overlap with this book get Psychology of the Future by Grof. But that is a bigger book and will probably cost as much as 2 of the other books. If I could only read one book by Grof, it would probably be that, because it covers a lot of different things, even though I like the books on the subconscious better.

i just bought hancock's Supernatural, haven't gotten into it yet though.
my learning mind is buried itself deep inside Goedel, Esher, Bach right now, which i would definitely highly recommend.

unless someone can suggest a better mystical book by grof, i will probably get the cosmic game.. thanks man... it might even be what im looking for.
altered again...who is that book by and what is it about?
the supernatural is supposed to be great.... hancocks theory of the orion belt kinda got blown outta the water by another writer named andrew collins who uses the cygnus colstallation ... but someone has come up with a theory for a combination of the two... there is just so many secrets to life we may never find them out.
then again we are living in a very special age right now and there are going to be world shattering discoveries.

I thought 'LSD Psycotherapy' by Grof was pretty amazing, but it is pretty much a psychology/therapy manual. There are some very important insights into the unconscious and transpersonal experience.

the book is by a fellow named Douglas Hofstadter.
it's a deep book that is titled after Goedel's strange mathematical loops, Esher's strange loops displayed in his art, and the same thing present in Bach's extraordinary music.
in a nutshell GEB is an attempt to say how it is that animate beings can come out of inanimate matter.
it asks, what is the self, and how can a self come out of the stuff that is as selfless as a stone or a puddle.
this book was recommended to me by an online friend of mine, he said the read is more than worthwhile.

thats's good to hear, it will be the next book on my to-read list.

I have hancock's 'supernatural' which explores the link between psychoactives (mainly ayahuasca) and prehistoric art. he also explores david lewis-williams' entoptics and asks whether our ancestors discovered dna during trips. It's a great, informative read. I couldn't put it down. Gets a little ott near the end when he starts philosophising but I put it down to too much research, ie: too much ayahuasca! I recommend it!

Bump!
Stan Grof's latest (not brand new either) is just what you're looking for. It's titled "When the impossible happens - Adventures in non-ordinary realities". It's a retrospective collection of autobiographical anecdotes in which a glimpse - sometimes much more - of the supernatural came lurking from behind a corner. Some amazing stories there, with interesting comments by Grof. Great read!
