exaushed cake Q

i had a cake that EXPLOADED with pins. literally 50 pins. all potention mushrooms.
i got about 15 mushrooms from the cake already and the others are VERY small still, and have slowed down growth.
they're very good pins, each about 1/2 cm longs. the top of my cake, (where most of the pins are/were) looks dry and exausted. is there a way to replenish the cake so the pins will have enuff nutrients to finish growing?

I would stick a straw in the cake and fill it with steril water. The cake will obsorb the water as it needs it. Just keep the straw full and the cake should never be thirsty.

I would never dunk a cake with growing pins/soon to be mushrooms.
