Why not Coco Fiber?

Hi all...I called every pet store in the area, and all of them didn't even know what Coir is...
Any other place besides pet stores that carry coir? why not coco fiber? Is manure and coir basically my best only options to spawn to bulk in a lasagna pan?
Thanks guys.

Coco coir is composted, coco fiber isn't. Since every tek I've seen says "Don't use THIS!" with a picture of coco fiber next to it, I'm assuming it's a no-go.
There are plenty of options besides coir, though. 50/50, for instance. Read around.
Also, they might not know what coir is, but they MIGHT still have something they only know as "reptile bedding" which is in fact coir. Ask if they have reptile bedding that looks to them like a huge brownish brick, perhaps.

look in the reptile section of the pet store...
it is used as a bedding for reptiles.
there are several different brands of Coco Coir...
these are the three that I see the most...
Bed of Beast
Forest Bed
Eco Earth
I prefer using horse manure for a bulk substrate...
as Coco Coir is more expensive for me to get.

So one more question Mr. Roadkill!
Well a three parter technically...Is coco coir pretty common? Is it Wal Mart common? Should I be surprised people didn't know what I was talking about?
Thank you soooo much!

In large Pet Stores like...Petsmart and Petco <-- Yes it's very common.

Not sure...
I'm not a Walmart Shopper.
sorry!~

When dealing with places like Walmart, Petco, Petsmart, Home Depot, Lowes...etc.
Sometimes you have new people that don't know all the products that they sell... or they are working in a dept. that they have little knowledge about.
Sometimes you will have complete idiots that shouldn't even be working there.
and yet other times you will have someone that knows what the fuck they are doing, talking about and selling...and might be considered to be an expert.
The best advice I can tell you is to go into a Pet Store and look in the Reptile Dept. for the 3 different brands of Coco Coir that I listed up above.
it comes in a brick and it looks like this...

For the record, not every brand of reptile bedding that I have seen specifically says "coco coir" on it. If you take a look at the brands that roadkill has named above, you'll see how easy it is to recognize in the future.

Or if you can find them, 5kg bricks are available at some garden centers. Harder to find but there alot cheaper. I found 5kg bricks for under 6$.
Peace

Scroll down and check out the coir on this page >> http://www.composters.com/docs/lawncare2.html#cb?OVRAW=coco%20coir&OVKEY=coco%20coir&OVMTC=standard I just usually rather pay and walkout with the stuff in my hand rather than order it but it does seem that places that sell it for plants do have a much better deal than places that sell it as reptile bedding

haha, i went to my closest pet store last week to find coir for the first time. i looked forever where i thought it would be, until i finaly asked but they were all out, the lady says "everytime we restock people come in and clean us all out.?" i wonder if everyone around me is buying it for reptile bedding? ... i then had to drive twenty minutes to the next pet store i knew of and i found one of those 3 brick packs for 8 bucks.
