psilocybe cubensis causing delirium?

had a very strange experience a few weeks ago, where the shrooms I ate didn't just make me trip really hard, but sent me into a delirium. I grew these shrooms from a syringe from a shroomery sponsor, and others have ingested them and not had any sort of experience like mine. It's weird. But they were definitely cubensis without a doubt.

I ate 7 grams, which is a lot, but I've eaten mushrooms many, many times. I've taken 10 hits of very good acid and been very messed up, but I still remember everything about the trip. A 7 gram dose of mushrooms is more than I usually take, but not more than I've ever taken.

But when I ate the 7 grams, (they were b+), I don't remember anything after about 20 minutes after ingesting them. I was apparently doing stuff, mumbling nonsense and trying to piss on the floor sorts of things. The sort of thing one does in a delirium. I got my memory back after about 4 hours... but I was still out of it. I thought I had created the universe in my head so just sat still and watched it cause it didn't matter anyway. It felt less like a bad trip and more like eating a box of dramamine.

So do high doses of mushrooms have a delirient effect, or was it some strange reaction I had? Anyone else had anything like this happen to them? Frankly, I didn't know it was possible to eat so many shrooms that you just black out. RR has talked about taking 30 grams dry I think... so wtf?

They probably just really kicked your ass. When you said you thought it was is if you created the entire world, that's what I got on some of my trips before.

Also, first time I got that I blacked out.

"I don't remember anything after about 20 minutes after ingesting them." yet you know it was delirium? just sounds like you were to dehydrated and blacked out for 4 hours. psilocybin especially in some potent B+ mushrooms can be really really strong, but in no way would cause delirium.

its possible you get really dehydrated and delirium derrived from your dehydration, or you were tripping really hard and just blacked out. Im still not convinced you were delirious

I said it made me delirious because my girl was there (had eaten a lower dose) and told me what I was doing. I wasn't sleeping... didn't know who she was and stuff like that. I've been delirious before and, as I came out of it, it was very reminiscent. I was DYING of thirst, too. I've never heard of shrooms causing dehydration. do they?

i posted about memory loss on shrooms before.
my brother took a large dose in tea form then ate a couple grams about an hour after, more or less.
same mess happened to him. but he was very hard to control.

This disappoints me a little, because I was hoping of trying shrooms sometime and didn't think they had these sorts of memory problems.

On a high dose of cannabis, I didn't remember anything but bits and pieces and entered into a sort of psychotic state from panic. I once came to the conclusion that I had created everything I ever knew and experienced, and that every person, namely those I were interacting with were manifestations of myself created to damper the pain of loneliness and that I created time to shelter myself from the despair of infinity.

The point is there is no prescribed experience for any drug, any time because your mind is the real drug.

Ive had a delirium experience on mushrooms before. I ate the bag and an hour later was in the fetal position hearing voices talk about me, I was profusely sweating and was most defiantly not tripping at all.

I bought the bag at a grateful dead show while I was tripping (some bitch saw me tripping pretty hard and came up and offered them to me, yeah she got me). Ive always thought they were Amanita muscaria, not a pleasant experience by a long shot.

EDIT: I most defiantly know the difference between tripping and a delirious state.

yeah, shrooms can be pretty intense. in my opinion 20 hits of acid
is not too much different than 40 hits. but 3.5 grams of shrooms
and 7 grams can be the difference of being social or "trying to piss on the floor sorts of things"

thats my experience anyway.

I've had a similar type of experience twice. The first time I became hot and sweaty, felt really itchy and I had extreme confusion with 20g of cambodian cubs. In addition, I had a difficult time remaing conscious. Naturally I thought, "oh boy" contaminated shrooms", and proceded to take my case apart in the kitchen under yellowish light which is the last thing you want to be doing and worrying about while tripping.

I then promised myself to only eat the product after checking for contams. Which brings me to the second time: This time I did everything right, made sure the GT case wasn't contaminated and cooked up a tea with 25g wet. The first hour or so were great. But again, 1.5 hours into the trip the confusion/delirium set in with a fair amount of stomach discomfort similar to extreme alcohol intoxication. Again it was difficult remaining conscious.

In retrospect most of my not so fun trips seem to have been with fresh cubs and I'm thinking they are perhaps just harder for my body to handle. I don't buy the dehydration theory, you can run around all day drinking very little or not at all and you don't come home delirious.
I am at a loss what else could be the cause.

So far this has happenned to me on about 10% of my trips.

I'm moving on to Tampanensis sclerotia for a while to see how that is after failure at growing pans.

I've seen that kind of shit happen! A friend of mine went a little crazy one night, but it was nothing like a regular trip. He started believing things that didn't happen. Really random. I have it on film, and we watch it from time to time, just for fun. He thought that he tried to strangle himself, and believed that he almost killed himself. He thought someone caught him masturbating in the shower, when really he was in the living room the whole night. He thought that people had been there in the room who hadn't been over in days.....one person who he mentioned had never even been over. He was getting very delusional at points, which is strange because he didn't take much more than he usually would to trip....something like 7-9 grams of Gulf Coast cubensis?

I've only been to that point once, and it was during the comedown from a 9 dry gram Copelandia cyanescens trip. I wasn't quite as crazy, but I was getting delusional as hell. I figured that I must be dying because I couldn't recognize anyone in the room.....it felt like one of those dreams where you have those generic "dream friends" that don't exist, and you can't remember their faces after you wake up. I knew that I wasn't sleeping, and I remembered doing something to put me into that state, but I couldn't remember what it was. I couldn't make thoughts or remember anything, not even my likes or dislikes. Language and sound was totally broken...I couldn't understand what my best friends were trying to say to me, and I didn't know who they were. All I knew was that I wouldn't do this to myself on purpose, so I figured that my time had come.

I could actually feel my breathing and pulse getting more and more shallow. When my friend (whom I mentioned in the previous paragraph) noticed that I was having trouble expressing myself, he offered me a glass of wine, since the trip was just about at the 5 hour point. I didn't know what to make of the situation. I could feel a very distant memory of this oddly shaped red object that he was trying to give me. I instinctively put it to my lips and started to drink, not really knowing what I was supposed to do with it.

I gulped it down like water before I tasted it, and a big air bubble made me throw up. Right after it came up, I could feel reality coming back to me. Within about 3 minutes I was able to communicate again, and I couldn't stop laughing at the realization that I had gone completely insane for a little while there. To remember who I was and that I wasn't dying was one of the best feelings I've ever had. Throwing up was like a jump-start for my thoughts. Having my inner monologue replaced by silence was pretty weird.

i definitely agree with this. With acid, it seems you reach a certain point...you can get further, but the difference is bigger between 2 and 4 hits than it feels between 10 and 20.

Mushrooms seem to always have more in store. Sounds like the origial thread poster just tripped out hard. 7 grams of good shrooms will do that...

heh, well, I'm glad I know that can happen now.  I guess high enough doses of psilocybin cause a trip so intense, it's pretty much delirium.  I had no idea.  and I really considered myself experienced in this area... I swear I've eaten shrooms well over 100 times over a 9 year period now, usually just kind of eye-balling the dose, with lots of other people, and I had no clue that such a degree of out-of-one's-mind tripping out could occur.  Ah well, I'm reckless anyway--now I know.

but you know what's WEIRD?  quoting compass,

As I came off my dose, i was catatonic for a while, and that is __exactly__ what I was thinking.  I wrote about the trip before reading that post, let me  find and quote from it...

"it hit me that I was the only thing that existed and I had made this universe up. That every good and bad thing were just manifestations of the good and bad in my mind. Like it all made perfect sense and it should've been so obvious all along, and I was so blind not to see it. I was actually totally alone and in hell. That for eons I was forced to infinitely relive an absurd world. That I'd never know why I was in hell, that for me to be in hell was ultimately absurd. That I'd think about it all the time anyway. That everything I'd ever done, I'd done millions of times, in a neverending loop. That I'd forget all this again and and come back to it again an infinite number of times. Everything was just a projection of my own consciousness, yea, but I created it because I was alone, and all I could create was absurdity. And I couldn't ever die/cease to exist. I'd just sit at the verge of realizing why, but then spiral into circular, absurd reasoning and never quite attain the answer.

Still I'm not sure if what I experienced is true or not, if I didn't make all this up just cause it's better than floating in emptiness. If you're reading this and you really do exist, then you know I'm wrong. But it still can't convince me, cause I fully expect my mind would synthesize billions of people trying to convince me that they're real. My mind is absurd and tortorous like that."

and then other people posting have apparently indicated similar realizations.  That's just fucked up.  I mean, I'd say maybe it's actually true, and you just can't realize it unless you're on shrooms, but then... which one of us is the one that actually exists? :confused:

Could it be that we're all in your imagination, and our similar experiences are made up by your mind to keep you from considering that you're the only one who exists?  Maybe all the characters in this "play" called Life were all invented and played by you at some point, and it all repeats....every time you're born you play a different role.  Could that be the meaning of life?  To experience existance from every possible perspective in order to fully understand "ourself". 

Are we really of one consciousness, or is that feeling just a cultural universal phenomenon which just happens during a trip?  I'm not a particularly religious person, but think about this: If you were some kind of higher power and you just created everything, what would you do with it?  Wouldn't it be fun to test it?  You don't roll a joint just to look at it....you want to experience what you made.  How do we know that this isn't what we're doing every day?  One thing is for sure; experienceing life beats "floating in emptiness" forever.  What better way is there for an eternal being to pass the time?  Is that the point of the human experiment, or is this all just a dream?  Did you already know this, and that's why your mind made up this post?

WOW hippy-chemist, lol that was like a drug-users lullabye..

I did shrooms for the first time last weekend. I had no experiences like you guys said, basically it went like this:

Had a GREAT piss-up with some really close mates, i drunk about 1.5L of wine. Then hit my vile of subs (about 14m). I started hallucinating and became extremely talkative. Then i needed to spew, so i did so - then comered out on the cold wet driveway for about 2 hours (at which point where i think i missed the good stuff) then woke up, went on a mission with some mates while still on a huge buzz.

I am gonna try get to the state that some of you have described, will drink less this time lol.

powerofelf, just wake up - we are waiting for you on the other side, just wake up..

lol, dude just lay of the drugs for about a year. I had similar shit going on with me so i went on a self-imposed probation. Man it worked wonders, im back at it now though :p
