DT, it would be wise to not waste your time with FH. It's pointless....really.

Yes, but that meaning isn't objective so why consider it's true? It's just an amalgamation of social conditioning and primal instincts. This meaning is illusory in the light of real truth, but I'm also an animal so I'm not going to go against it. That doesn't mean it's real.

Thats a valid perspective. Its actually not far off from what I believe.

I see life as a just:crazy2: a game.

So why not play?

All we're discussing right now is existentialism: There is no inherent meaning for us, but we can form our own meanings and, interestingly, objective truths can give some guidelines for that meaning.

Are you serious??

The Universe.

These meanings of the universe, from the universe, are what? How do you know the universe is capable of this?

Just because meaning isn't all encompassing doesn't mean it doesnt exist. You said it yourself, we subjectively create meaning.

Score on the triple negative.

But we are meaningless. That means any subjective meaning we create is meaningless...But still important to us, I'll give you that.

Capable of influencing us. How do you know these values come from the universe?

Anyways, I'm finished for today and I'm seriously lacking sleep. Maybe we'll continue the discussion tomrrow or maybe I'll wake up and realize I contradicted myself quite a bit, who knows :P.

Art and culture themselves are not parts of our organism, but our ability to create them arose from evolution. I live for art, and in its broadest definition, I believe we all do.

"Intelligent" organisms seem to learn by imitating/repeating something they see, hear, or otherwise perceive - the learning process....
Most likely "art" or something that was thought to be "pleasing" was first noticed/perceived....
A pretty sunset, a nice lush valley in bloom, a bird singing it's song, the rhythm of the waves, etc....
Then, as we started to like this perceived "art", we started to imitate/repeat it by copying existing -
shapes on the cave walls with smashed berries, or copying existing rhythmic drum-like nature sounds....

It doesn't take long to make a copying mistake, and notice that it perhaps doesn't look so bad either - just call that "Original Art"....

The Universe/nature (or God) created "art" way before humans did, but it didn't REALLY exist until humans perceived it AS "art"....
