Is there such a thing as waiting too long to birth

I know the cultivation FAQ says that full colonization can take anywhere from 2 to 5 weeks, but if I'm unsure as to whether or not they are ready and decide to leave them in for a while longer, do I risk screwing this up by leaving them in too long? Will any pins that form grow into mature shrooms inside the jar, are will they die from lack of oxygen?

you should birth about a week after the outside part has colonized. It will not hut to go awhile longer thopugh. As long as it is TOTALLY dark no pins will for but if they get a little light then the bugers may start to form in the jars. Its called in vitro. Shrooms can grow to full size in the jar. its not the best way to grow but some do it if they need to keep their hobby a secret...
