the ellipse is maybe like 1 or 2 % off of being a "true circle"... mostly due to the gravitational influence of jupiter (almost a failed star (& of course, in a c clarke's _2001_ series, the obelisk(s) did ignite the big boy into another sun for our local system (& our instructions were to leave europa alone, 'cus the locals there had, ummm, "potential" eh?))
& ol' pluto (& its fellow-traveller charon) may be more of a captured comet-type snowball, with its marked elliptical orbit & tilt offa th' ecliptic plane & all that, mmmm?
(& heinlein used it for an advance base for the nasty wormfaces in his excellent juvi novel _have spacesuit, will travel_)

It's about earths axis-bent, but it's not the distance, that matters to summer and winter, but the angle of the sun rays. If they hit earth surface in an 90 degree angle, they heat up earth the most.

But the earth takes a turn around its axis each day..
Would it not then be all seasons in one day, like at/on equator?

It doesn't wobble on its axis each day.
See how the earth on the left is tilted towards the sun?? (northern hemisphere) It still spins true to the axis, but since the north is closer to the sun its summer. The earth on the right is the opposite... Winter.

Hum... Interesting!
I am starting to grasp this...
So, the earth does not take one spin around its own axis every day, at all?
I cannot understand why I cannot grasp this, but no teacher have ever bothered staying with me long enough.. I never intend on assuming, so I really need to get it in with a tea spoon...

Richard Dawkins on page 97 in his book The God Delusion says that one particular pulsar spins on its axis every 1.33 seconds. Then he says imagine if our days last for 1.33 seconds instead of 24 hours.
I got the impression that he was saying the sun takes 24 hours to rotate on its axis and that's why we have a 24-hour day.
Am I wrong?. I am damn confused

You are wrong!
The earth rotates on it's axis every 24 hours. It's axis is tilted, that is why we have different seasons.
The sun takes about 10 hours to make a rotation.

Then explain to me, (..and please do mind the fact that i got the mind of a 3 year old.) ... How is it not all 4 seasons in one day, if that is the case?
[Like it is at equator.]
