So sick of casings...

Every case SWIM grows, comes up with tiny skinny mushrooms.

Every cake SWIM grows comes up with fat, thick, heavy mushrooms.

He gets more from cakes than cases...and thusly will grow cakes only from now on.

What sort of sub are you adding a casing LAYER too?  Spawning or just crumbling cakes?  If you are just crumbling cakes you would def be better off just leaving them as cakes and dunk'n and roll'n em'.  However if you are just crumbling cakes let me advise you to try to spawn a couple to some poo and see how skinny those mushrooms are.  I can almost assure once you spawn to some poo you will prb never go back.  That is the only thing too do with crumbled cakes.

Try making a 4 inch substrate layer, I garantee you will not have this problem. Cause their is no way in hell you can get more fruit weight from a cake than a casing unless you "the grower" are doing something wrong.

All of the above has been done, same results everytime. BRF cakes crumbled and cased, brf cakes crumbled to poo colonized then cased, rye spawned to poo then cased etc. etc.

Same results everytime. The only large yields this person gets are from cakes.

Greetings,

Is there a glossary of terms somewhere on this site ?

From the original post: What is a SWIM ? Is it a user's name ?

From RR's reply: What is BE ? Bio Efficiency ?

Thanks guys,

Rico

Yes and him and AFOAF should both finish smoking each others pole and kill them self already,I find it quite disturbing that anyone here honestly believes this foolishness protects them in anyway, lets just hope for their sake that they are also only foolish enough to grow a bunch of contamination so it doesn't matter who they say it belongs to when the police find it

I would have to disagree BRF is mostly verm it cannot compare to any whole grain. IME yields have always been far superior with rye or WBS pound for pound.

Interesting. Try making a 1/2 pint whole rye cake and see how many mushrooms you get. I normally spawn rye berries to bulk, but there's no denying the fact that pf cakes can outperform any other method. Rye grains are my preferred source of spawn, and I use them ten times as much as pf cakes, but nothing else in 1/2 pint size will perform as well.

Just wanted to put this in there while were on the topic:

I experimented resently with orgranic brands from wal-mart....

They were name brands and i belived there would be no difference between the growth of these cakes because of the substarate i chose..

Its been a month or so and the jars showed promising growth right of the back and strong mycellium

But then:thumbdown:
it went down hill growth has almost stopped it sucks...and i inoculated some ordinaty brf/verm cakes 2 weeks after i inoculated my experimental grow and you guessed it the brf/verm cakes have caught up...

So a word for people like me lookin for the cheap way out: DONT.IT DOESNT WORK.

Thats all i had to say :tongue2::mushroom2:

I have done quite a few rye grain casings with outstanding results I have also done a few BRF casings results were consistent to say the least. Are we talking cakes here or substrates? Efficiency depends much on nutrient sources 100% (whole grains) vs. 60% (BRF). I'm taking substrates. I have seen outstanding results using rye flour in place of brown rice flour also (PFTek). Consistently PF cakes hold little value when compared to casings, there is a simply reason why SWIM has had bad luck with casings. PF cakes do not outperform casings never have never will to think so absolutely blows my mind bro.

It also helps to make sure your casings are around 4 inches thick.

If you make it much thicker small shrooms will dominate the first flush, and later flushes aren't all that better (even after dunking).

1/2pint cakes have no place in bulk grows anyhow, unless it's spawned to poo. And anyone who really cares about BE wouldn't even look at BRF, brf is for asthetics, everyone who uses grains would never make a 1/2pint nor try to fruit it as a cake.

just because RR says it doesn't mean it's correct.

Quote:

well, i deny that as fact, in fact, i dispute that whole heartedly. BRF is a big waste of time. And pftek, while it works, has less then desirable performance.

I don't know how many times i've read RR post taking 23 days to colonize a pftek jar, that's simply naseauting, if i ever do any, and they take longer then 9 days, i throw them out, they are just about worthless anyhow.

simple invitro poo bags, now that's BE. Start to finish 18 days, and that's colonizing the grains, spawning, spawn run, then fruiting, 18 days. So far mine have returned 1/3 of the substrate weight, and still flushing.

Yeah, what he said. I agree hyphae, ORF works a lot better then BRF.

Regarding the Original Poster:

The thing with spawn/bulk/casing is that is requires a bit more fine tuning and care to get consistent good results, as a lot more can go wrong, while a properly made cake is more of a forgiving method. You spend most of the time waiting with cakes, not misting, casing, patching, pH regulating, optimum saturation point, overlay, etc etc etc

You can just do it in a haphazard way (as I do sometimes) but it will all be up to luck

On the Cakes vs Casing issue:

Has anyone compared yields based on weight of substrate? What yield do ten cakes give and what do they weigh? How do yeilds compare to the same amount of cased bulk or cased grain?

Just comparing your last casing with cakes you did a few years ago doesn't count, as not only will your technique have improved but cakes weigh less than your avarage cased substrate.

space is at a premium in most peopls grow. pf teks dont fit much in a small area apposed to a casing.

my needs are based on yeild per space.
