Ideal Terrarium

Reccently my friend was thinking about using a hamster cage with plastic slits on the top as a terrarium. My question is would this be a good idea, because i know you need to remove stagnant air inside, or would this be to big of a risk of contaminating the casing?

Well I've been fruting in a heated propagtor with slide vents on top, usually open, and I take the lid off for a min every so often. No contam yet, should be ok.

Its a plastic cage. So I would need to wrap it all in plastic? I was thinking of putting filter disks on top and just putting the lid back on.
